Boaters and anglers of East Lynn Lake: we need YOU on the water!

On Saturday, April 25, we're hosting Waters & Banks Day; a lake-wide spring clean-up focused on the areas only boats can reach.

If you fish here, launch here, or run these coves all year, you already know where the problem spots are. Floating trash, shoreline debris, backwater junk... this is your lake, and your knowledge of it is what makes this effort work.

We'll be meeting at the marina at 9:00 AM and heading out from there. Trash bags, gloves, and grabbers will be provided. Lifejackets are required.

Corps employees of East Lynn Lake will anchor their pontoon at the intersection of Lick Creek and East Fork channels for you to unload your trash.

Whether you've got a jon boat, bass boat, kayak, or just a few hours to help guide others, your presence on the water makes a real difference. If you've ever said "Someone ought to clean that up," this is the day.

Questions or want to be an official partner? Call 304-849-2355 (Option 3) or message us here.

These sort of efforts require many boots on the ground, or in this case, boats in the water! Let's work together to have clean water and good fishing!

🌲💡Are you looking to gather firewood? We are happy to offer free permits for personal use!

Getting one is easy: just give our office a call to set up a quick appointment, and we'll get you squared away.

What to know before you collect firewood:

🌳Only fallen trees may be collected for firewood. We do not allow cutting or felling any standing trees, whether dead or alive.

🚫No walnut or black cherry may be collected under any circumstances. These species are protected due to high timber theft risk and our investigative processes.

🚗Stay on authorized roads and only use the vehicle listed on your permit. We can provide you a map of open and closed roads to take with you upon request. This ensures park rangers easily identify you as a permitted individual, and not a timber theif!

🪵Firewood is for personal use only; not for resale.

🔥Gas-powered equipment must have a spark arrestor to prevent causing wildfires.

🤔❓Why do permits matter?
Permits help us monitor and protect East Lynn Lake's public woodlands; reducing illegal timber theft and keeping our forests healthy for everyone to enjoy.

Give us a call with any questions or to schedule your permitting appointment!

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, East Lynn Lake hosted a successful Backcountry Clean-Up thanks to the hard work of our maintenance team, park rangers, and an incredible group of 33 volunteers who came together with one goal: keeping our public lands clean, safe, and beautiful.

Park Rangers Taylor Allen, Tucker Green, and Teanna Burns, along with maintenance workers Colby Tomblin and Joshua Henderson teamed up with volunteers from the off-roading community to remove trash from the backcountry areas of East Lynn Lake. By the end of the event, an entire dump truck bed (and then some more!) was filled with litter collected from the landscape.

We're especially grateful for the support of our event partners, both returning and new, whose generosity and dedication made this clean-up possible. Thank you to:

🌲West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection
🌲Good Time Campground
🌲Rustic Ravines
🌲Premier Equipment Rentals
🌲KRX Koalition
🌲Pappy's Creekside Camp

Your contributions -- ranging from breakfast to volunteers to guiding clean-up groups to clean-up supplies and equipment -- played a huge role in the success of the event.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to every volunteer who joined us, including those who traveled from North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Ohio. We believe your dedication to the stewardship of these public lands is inspiring and contagious to other users of the lands.

💚Together, we're making a difference at East Lynn Lake. Thank you for being part of this effort to protect our shared public lands!

East Lynn Lake would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Civil Air Patrol for visiting East Fork Campground during Labor Day weekend! Campers participated in an engaging and educational program called "Hug a Tree."

This valuable program teaches children what to do if they ever become lost in the woods. Participants learned essential survival skills, including how to use a signal mirror, an emergency whistle, and how to create a makeshift shelter using a trash bag.

To conclude the event, the children were given a special introduction to Search and Rescue K-9s.

We appreciate the Civil Air Patrol’s dedication to safety and education, and we look forward to future collaborations!

This afternoon, park rangers discovered $700 in potential fines on Napier Ridge for multiple violations:

• $200 – Improper disposal of trash (327.9a)

• $50 – Burning tires (327.10b)

• $200 – Bringing tires onto Corps property for disposal (327.9b)

• $100 – Possession of alcoholic beverages (327.12e)

• $150 – Unauthorized fi****ms on federal property (327.13a)

East Lynn Lake is a place for boating, camping, hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors—not for dumping trash, burning hazardous materials, or breaking the law. These actions harm the environment, ruin the experience for visitors, and take valuable time away from park rangers who could be improving facilities, hosting free public events, and focusing on safety.

We are sure the public is even more tired than we are of seeing this. If you have information about those responsible for these violations or others, please contact us at 304-849-2355 option 3, or just directly message this page.

Together, we can keep East Lynn Lake safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.
