Recently, we were able to recognize two local organizations for their continued efforts to support our fire department and our community. Through generous donations, we have been able to distribute smoke alarms, purchase new equipment and replaced aged technology with new state of the art. Their continued philanthropy should not go unnoticed and we hope these small gestures will help in sharing just that. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for all you do. Moose Lodge #122 and Elks Lodge #258.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/Paramedic Brittany Hill on successfully completing her first year with the East Liverpool Fire Department!

Over the past year, Brittany has completed all requirements in her probationary firefighter book while also continuing her professional development through additional training and certifications. Since being hired, she has earned her FF2, Hazmat Technician, Rope Rescue, Crisis Intervention, and Fire & Life Safety Educator certifications.

Two days ago, Brittany was given the “Chief’s Test,” which she passed with flying colors. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, she was awarded her helmet shield officially designating her as a Firefighter.

We are proud of Brittany’s accomplishments and look forward to watching her continue to grow in her career. Congratulations, Brittany! 🚒👏

Today, our firefighters along with members of Salem Fire Dept. and Youngstown Fire Dept. took part in a confined space exercise. This exercise was done as a requirement by the United States Coast Guard and in conjunction with A.M.&.O Towing/ Billson Towing. Unfortunately, the USCG was not able to attend today. We were also joined by a member of Liverpool Township, due to this exercise being done on and in a floating barge we could not invite more departments but are planning for the future to include other surrounding departments.

The drill was a rescue operation inside of a confined space to retrieve a downed victim, packaging and navigating that victim in the dark and unknown environment. With the use of a rescue tripod and low angle rope rescue skills, the victim was hoisted from below deck to the surface. Recently acquired air monitoring devices were used to ensure the conditions were safe for all and simulate real world practices as well as building on our knowledge of the system and honing our skills.

We want to thank the members from Salem, LTFD and Youngstown for participating with us and building on relationships that would be utilized in a real world incident. Salem provides confined space rescue for Columbiana County at the request from other departments with limited or no equipment and training. Youngstown has a team of rescue technicians that specialize in several skilled practices.
Lastly, thanks to Italos Pizza for catering lunch for everyone.
