We are very proud to celebrate the recognition of Jong In Lim from our COMMunity who is one of two individuals from Michigan State University College of Communication Arts & Sciences who received Michigan State University's 2026 Excellence in Teaching Citation Award!!

The Excellence-in-Teaching Citation is a distinction given to graduate teaching assistants who demonstrate exceptional care, skill, and dedication in the classroom. This honor highlights the vital contributions graduate instructors make to the undergraduate experience.

🎉 Big congratulations to Spartan standout Casmiera A. Thorman! 🎉

Casmiera is a Masters student in the Department of Communication’s Health & Risk Communication program at MSU has been named a 2026 scholarship recipient by The LAGRANT Foundation! She was selected as one of just 55 students nationwide, earning the Healthcare Marketing & Communications Scholarship.

Congratulations to Tyler Pham on successfully defending their dissertation proposal, "Does Sending Attitude-Discrepant Messages Always Lead to Declining Attitude Change?"

Tyler's research examines research examines how sending evaluative messages in computer-mediated communication can shape communicators’ impressions of their conversation partners, particularly when those messages involve foreseeable and potentially aversive consequences. Using a 2×2 experimental design, the project advances theoretical understanding of impression formation by integrating psychological perspectives on interpersonal cognition in mediated communication.

We look forward to seeing Tyler's important work continue to develop!

Congratulations to Rui (Cara) Zhu for defending her prelim proposal: Extending Sender Effects of the Hyperpersonal Model in AI-Mediated Communication. Her research conceptualizes AI-mediated communication, its effects in senders' psychology, and impression and relational outcomes. We can't wait to see where this takes you, amazing work, Cara!
