Yesterday East Killingly Fire Department members participated in a dive drill with Woodstock Dive Team and Dayville Fire Company. Together our boats were able to safely deploy divers and we learned more about communications between divers, tenders and dive operations.
Training together make our crews more efficient and effective for situations where minutes matter.

Congratulations to Firefighter Victoria Ashwell on earning her Firefighter I Certification!

Today, we celebrate more than just a certification, we celebrate the dedication, perseverance, and heart that Victoria has shown every step of the way. Countless hours of training, studying, and pushing through challenges have led to this well-earned accomplishment.

Watching our members grow into confident firefighters is one of the greatest rewards of being part of the East Killingly Fire Department, and we couldn’t be prouder of Tori for reaching this milestone. Her commitment to serving our community and standing beside her fellow firefighters is something to be admired.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from the East Killingly Fire Department! 🇺🇸
As you celebrate with family and friends, please think safety for your festivities.

🎆 4th of July Safety Tips:
• Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
• Keep children and pets a safe distance from fireworks.
• Never relight a "dud" firework.
• Have a bucket of water or a hose nearby if using legal consumer fireworks.
• Keep grills away from homes, decks, and dry grass.
• Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and watch for signs of heat illness.
• If you're celebrating with alcohol, never drive, designate a sober driver.

If an emergency happens, don't hesitate to call 911.

Finally, warm weather is here! ☀️
With the arrival of summer, EKFD members spent drill night sharpening our pumping and drafting skills. In the rural areas we serve, fire hydrants are not available, making it critical that we know where our water sources are and how to access them quickly and efficiently when emergencies occur.
Training like this ensures our firefighters are prepared to establish a reliable water supply from ponds, lakes and other available sources, helping us provide the best possible service to our community when every second counts.
