The East Killingly Fire Department continues to mourn the death of a mentor and friend retired, but never forgotten, Chief Darius "Hoppy" Hopkins. Hoppy served with the Dayville and East Killingly Fire Departments beginning in 1942 and retired as chief of EKFD in 1992. Although retired Chief Hopkins always made it to drill night, meetings, and never missed a Memorial Day Parade.
