"The measure of a man is not his longevity … but rather whether he made a positive difference during his lifetime. … Based upon the number of people that he saved, his courage in the face of danger, and the 1,000s inspired by his heroics … Welles was clearly a man of extraordinary character. Like other great men and women of history, he is remembered, missed and … honored."

If you believe that your Village taxes are too high, below is the information you need to challenge them. Keep in mind that the deadline is this Tuesday, February 17, 2015.

The 2015/16 Village of East Hills Tentative Assessment Roll is available for public review from Monday, February 2 until Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
February 17, 2015 is the last day to file a grievance on the 2015/16 Tentative Village Assessment. Your complaint must be received by this date.
The Village requires an original plus 2 copies of each complaint submitted.
The 2015 Residential Assessment Ratio (RAR) is 1.64%.
The 2015 Equalization Rate (EQ) is 1.66.
The taxable status date for 2015/2016 assessments was January 1, 2015.
For 2015/16 Village of East Hills Assessments, the Level of Assessment is equal to the state Equalization Rate of 1.58%.
If filing on behalf of a property owner, the complaint MUST include signed homeowner authorization. Applications submitted without this documentation will be denied.

If filing on your own behalf, remember to include any supporting documentation with your complaint.

You must verify the tentative assessments in your complaint against the published 2015/16 Village of East Hills Tentative Assessment Roll prior to submission. Complaints filed with incorrect assessments will be denied.

If you are dissatisfied with the determination of the Board of Assessment Review, you may seek judicial review of your assessment pursuant to Article 7 of the Real Property Tax Law (RPTL). Petitions for judicial review must be filed within thirty (30) days of the last date allowed by law for the filing of the final assessment roll (April 1), or the published notice of such filing, whichever is later. Petition forms for Small Claims Assessment Review may be obtained from the Nassau County Clerk's Office.

Did you know that the Village of East Hills is looking to fill four part-time jobs on March 18th?

On that date, elections will be held to fill the positions of Mayor, Trustee (two positions) and Village Judge. Currently, the Mayor's position pays a whopping $66,000 per year while the Trustee position pays $22,000 per year. If that wasn't lucrative enough, these positions also include full family medical benefits (a $20,000 benefit)!

ANY adult Village resident can run for these positions.

We share this information because EHAG believes in open and transparent government, and the Village website, calendar and email mailings fail to include any of this information, or even that there is an election this year.

If you are interested in participating in this process and need help, please contact us at [email protected]. We're happy to help.
