The department is in charge of protecting over 1.5 square miles of land. The area consists of roughly 2 miles of Expressway, different industrial and commercial businesses, medical facilities, several apartment complexes, and over 17 blocks of land that over 1,570 residents call home. The department has a 31 personnel roster and every member is Paid On Call (POC) which the exception of a single fu

ll time deputy chief who mans the station during the weekdays. Shifts are carried out by POC personnel to protect & man the station during peak times. The department has 3 engines, 1 rescue squad, and 2 command/utility vehicles.

In 2025, the East Hazel Crest Fire Department responded to a record-shattering 804 calls for service, far surpassing the previous record of 624 set a few years ago. Like most of our neighbors, call volumes continue to increase and we stand ready to serve the residents and visitors to our little village and our neighbors in Mabas Division 24.

🚑The East Hazel Crest Fire Department rang in the New Year with a monumental milestone in our history.🚒

Yesterday marked a historic moment for the East Hazel Crest Fire Department as we officially began providing our own in-house ambulance service, staffed entirely by East Hazel Crest Fire Department personnel.

At 12:00 PM on 12/31/25, Ambulance 17 was officially placed into service and is now proudly serving the residents and visitors of East Hazel Crest. This ambulance will be staffed 24/7 by members of the East Hazel Crest Fire Department, further enhancing the level of care and service we provide to our community.

Below is a video capturing Ambulance 17 taking its maiden voyage at approximately 4:00 PM, responding to its first call for service, a moment many years in the making.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Village of East Hazel Crest, Mayor Thomas Brown, Administrator Patricia Lazuka, the Village Trustees, the Region VII EMS System Leadership Team, IDPH, and the past and present members of the East Hazel Crest Fire Department, whose dedication, support, and hard work over the years made this achievement possible.

We would also like to formally thank Buds Ambulance Service for their decades of dedicated and professional service to our community leading up to this transition. Your commitment to East Hazel Crest and its residents will always be appreciated and remembered.

This is more than a new ambulance; this is a new chapter in our department’s history. Thank you to our community for your continued support.
