On scene crews found a 2 story, 2 unit residential building with fire coming from a second floor window. Congratulations to Christopher Daly and Tyler Elliott, as they have graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy recruit training program. They were part of Recruit Class #77 and will start their probationary period with the East Hartford Fire Department. They will complete department specific fire training and perform paramedic field training as part of the probation.

Welcome to the East Hartford family!

EHFD also congratulates all the new recruits on completion of this program and wish the best on your new careers.

A special thanks to the Hero to Hero program that supports military members in the pursuit of training and education for careers in public safety. This helps veterans bridge the gap from their military service into civilian jobs. East Hartford has been fortunate to have hired a few former service members through this program. Tyler Elliott started the academy with the Hero to Hero program and graduated as a member of the East Hartford Fire Department!

Again congratulations to all!

On Friday evening, April 17th, 2026, the UConn Fire Department recognized a special group of firefighters that paved the way for fire based EMS in Connecticut. That group was comprised of 12 firefighters, 8 from East Hartford Fire Department and 4 from UConn Fire Department. They attended the first paramedic class offered at UConn Health Center 50 years ago. Congratulations to those members that set the bar higher for EMS in the Hartford County area by bringing paramedicine into the fire service. Thank you to UConn FD for inviting East Hartford FD to the event. Pictured are the original paramedic program pictures of the 12, the proclamation from the Stare of Connecticut for this achievement, and some of the attendees from that first class.

This morning, Congressman John Larson stopped by East Hartford Station 2 to present the department with a “big check.” The check represents $850,000 in federal funding that will go towards building a needed new Station 2. The check also reflected $165,000 awarded to the department from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant that will allow for quality fire training and associated burn prop. Thank you to Congressman Larson for his continued support of the East Hartford Fire Department!

Today the crew from Ladder 2 and Engine 5 had the privilege of giving Jaxon S. a ride to Riverside Magnet School. This was our way of saying thanks to Jaxon for a job well done. After the large snowstorm in late February, Jaxon recognized the importance of shoveling out hydrants in case they were needed for an emergency. He scouted his neighborhood and shoveled the hydrants there. Mayor Connor Martin was also able to meet with Jaxon at school to say thanks.
