ChildPlan,is an organization consisting of a variety of municipal and community leaders who are interested in assessing and providing for the needs of its community. Some of the early initiatives accomplished were the development of the School-based Health Centers, a Youth Advisory Board, Family Resource Centers, and a Teen Center.East Hartford ChildPlan, Inc. received its 501 c (3) non-profit sta

tus in 2003 and is now poised to act as a resource to the community in providing a local voice in program planning and as a fiduciary for the application for and allocation of grants. Goals of East Hartford ChildPlan

East Hartford ChildPlan Programs and Events Kindergarten Transition Get Together: In partnership with the EH School Readiness Council, ChildPlan helps to organize a “get together” for Kindergarten and Pre-school teachers at least once a year. The purpose of this “get together” is for Kindergarten and Pre-school teachers to talk about the transition from pre-school to kindergarten. Kindergarten teachers inform the pre-school teachers on what they can do to help prepare children for kindergarten and pre-school teachers inform kindergarten teachers what they are doing for help children prepare for kindergarten. This is usually held in April or May Outreach to Formal and Informal Care Providers: In partnership with the EH School Readiness Council, ChildPlan provides informational support to Formal (Licensed Daycare Centers) and informal (home-care providers) including brochures and materials on providing a safe and quality early childcare experience for children in their centers or homes. CPR and First Aid training is also offered free of charge to all formal and informal care providers. Early Childhood Fair: In Partnership with the EH School Readiness Council and the EH Board of Education ChildPlan provides a day of fun activities and resources for families with young children. Families are also able to register their children for the upcoming school year at the fair Scarecrow Contest: Every October Families are invited out to the East Hartford Parks and Recreation Fall Fest where ChildPlan sponsors a scarecrow building contest. Families are encouraged to bring unique costumes and ideas to the event. All other materials as well as some miscellaneous costumes and crafts are provided. Each scarecrow is entered into the contest and families have the opportunity to win great prizes. Holiday Parties: Annual holiday parties for families who reside in the East Hartford Housing Authority Properties. After School Programs: Through SBM Charitable Foundation ChildPlan is able to offer “mini” grants for after school programs throughout East Hartford elementary schools and Middle School. Goal Line: The Goal Line Project provides an in-school mentoring program for East Hartford Middle School Students, now in its third academic year, initially began in 2007 through a grant from the SBM Charitable Foundation, and has since been funded by an additional commitment grant from the SBMCF, through the spring of 2011.The Goal Line Project is administered and sponsored by a collaboration of the following organizations and agencies: East Hartford ChildPlan, University of Connecticut Athletics Department, East Hartford Middle School Administration and Physical Education staff, East Hartford Youth Task Force, and the East Hartford Department of Youth Services. Parent courses: Each Year ChildPlan sponsors parent advocacy classes, which are free to residents and include free dinner and childcare
