Another Storm Update: Snow has nearly ended and the winds have died down quite a bit as well. Our plow drivers are in the process of making another pass on all of our roads and then will knock off for several hours to get some sleep. They will be back before sunrise tomorrow to check roads and begin to move on to other clean up. Schools will be a primary focus.

Eversource indicates that, despite a spike in outage reports in East Hampton later this afternoon, we are back down to 24 residences without power. These are not the same ones from earlier today. Those have been restored. Eversource will continue to work through the night and Town staff will remain in contact with them as needed.

Our Police, Fire and Ambulance responded to a number of calls today and they seem to have gone well. Thank you to those responders for the great coordination efforts.

The worst seems to be over. Clean up remains. Thanks for your patience. Be safe.

Storm Update: During the height of the storm, each pass around the various plow routes in the community was taking nearly four hours, but that will start to improve as the snowfall winds down. Peak snowfall this morning was about three inches per hour and has been over two inches per hour since about 4am. Thanks to the community for staying off the roads and being patient.

We currently have about 25 households without power due to a fallen tree or tree limbs. Eversource has about 14,000 customers out statewide according to its website. Wind still remains an issue and peak wind gusts have been reported in the state at just under 70mph. As soon as it is safe to put lifts into the air and work on overhead lines, the company will begin restorations.

Snowfall is expected to continue to taper off through late afternoon but winds will remain strong for several hours, which will keep the blizzard warning in effect and continue to impact road conditions and restoration efforts.

Again, please be safe and patient. Call 911 if you need urgent assistance.

Local staff and State officials are preparing for the major winter storm event anticipated for tomorrow into Monday. The latest weather reports call for 18 to 24 inches of heavy, wet snow in our area with snow starting mid day Sunday and continuing through early afternoon on Monday. Blizzard conditions are predicted as far north as East Hampton during the overnight Sunday into early morning Monday. Please avoid travel if you are able. Power outages are possible so please ensure you have made proper preparations. Eversource is staging crews throughout the area and we will be in regular communication with them as necessary.

Public Works staff will be undertaking plowing operations throughout the storm with focus on keeping roads passable and keeping public safety buildings open. Please remember, it takes at least two hours to complete one pass through the entire town with all of our available staff and plows on the road. During heavy snow, there will be accumulation. During active snowfall, roads and public safety buildings are the priority. In the first days or more after the snow stops, the Department will be focused on pushing back road edges, and fully clearing parking lots at public safety buildings and schools so that they are able to open, which will likely involve the slow process of hauling snow to other areas or sites. After that work is complete, attention will turn to clearing sidewalks with priorities around schools and in the Village Center and other commercial areas. Because of the expected depth and weight of the snow, this will also be a slow process.

If you experience an emergency, call 911 and emergency personnel will respond as quickly and safely as possible. These departments have coordinated and will be staged and working together to facilitate prompt response.

We thank you in advance for your patience as we work through yet another potentially large storm. Be safe.

As we all know, snow is coming Sunday starting in the morning and continuing through Monday. Heavy snow is expected during the mid-day Sunday with snow fall of up to two inches per hour. Please plan ahead and avoid travel as much as possible. Town crews will be on duty throughout the storm to keep roads passable. As a reminder, it takes at least two hours for our plow drivers to complete one pass for all roads, which means there will be accumulations on the road while snow continues. Further, due to unavailability of salt to municipalities, the Town will be using a mix of sand and salt to help improve traction and provide some melting. Despite efforts, it is likely that there will be closures and late openings on Sunday and Monday, so please check websites, social media and television for updates. We are in communication with Eversource in the event that power outages occur, which are NOT expected to be widespread. If needed, the Town Hall and Library will be available for warming during open hours plus extra hours as necessary.

Please stay warm, stay safe, and stay home if you are able.
