It is with heavy hearts that East Granby Parks and Recreation and Youth Servies share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our Program Coordinator Becky Hayes.

Becky was one of a kind. She was wildly creative, deeply caring, a technology guru who had a passion for working with young people, especially her preschool friends. Her attention to detail, organization, and genuine care for everything she touched and those encountered is unmatched.

Becky had a way of making coming to work more fun. Whether it was a 60 second dance party, a love of using our popcorn machine, or coming up with one of her wonderfully creative program ideas she brought laughter and energy in all she did.

Her dedication and passion for the East Granby Farms Playscape was especially meaningful. Becky poured her heart into the project, and her creativity, persistence, and belief in what it could be make the playscape a reality for our community.

Most of all, Becky was kind-hearted and caring. She cared deeply about children, family, her coworkers and the community she served. Her impact reaches far beyond the programs she helped rate – it lives on in the memories, smiles, and experiences she gave to so many.

We are incredibly grateful that we have had the privilege of working alongside Becky. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever a part of the East Granby Parks and Recreation & Youth Servies family.

We send our deepest condolences and love to Mike, Ella, Choe and Piper as well as her extended family and friends.

East Granby Youth Action Council Members (middle school & high school) joined Middle School Principal last week to speak with the rising 5th grade parents. They shared their thoughts and insights on Middle School and making the transition from elementary school. Then this same group spoke on Monday to the rising 5th graders and spoke again to the entire class.

Learning to be a leader spmetimes means stepping outside of your comfort zone. Huge shout out to Jack, Mia, Brianna, Mel & Cayden. A special thanks to our High School Youth Action Council members Evan and Gabby (not pictured here) and Morgan who joined the group when she learned there was a need for more volunteers.

Congratulations and well done!

Calling all Middle School Parents:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to announce that East Granby Middle School will be hosting their 2nd annual Community Day on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM! This special event promises to be a fun-filled morning of games, activities, and friendly competition for all the students.

To make the day a success, we are seeking parent and guardian volunteers to assist with running games and supervising activities. Your help will ensure that everything runs smoothly and that students have a safe and memorable experience.

EG Youth Services is coordinating parent volunteers for the day, and we need your help. We are looking for volunteers to help run the different field games, supervise the obstacle course, and assist with tie-dying and arts and crafts.

If you are available and interested in volunteering, please fill out this google link https://forms.gle/L8TBM1q9i7QGkLzVA . The rain date for the event is Monday, June 1, 2026.

If you have any questions, please call me directly on 860/653-7660.
Thank you in advance for your support and willingness to help make this Community Day a success!

Alicia Van Neil, Youth Services Supervisor

What a wonderful Saturday morning! 🌟 Our Youth Action Council had an incredible time volunteering with the Miracle League of Connecticut at their Bushnell Park Carousel event.

The music was turned down for a sensory-friendly experience, but the fun and excitement were turned all the way up! 🎠 From endless carousel rides to creative LEGO stations—and even free munchkins and hot chocolate—there was something for everyone to enjoy.

It was truly an amazing event celebrating individuals of all abilities. Our group had an absolute blast, and we’re so grateful to have been part of such a special day! ❤️
