Have you been to the Corinth Town Forest??? Have you walked the trails of this magnificent piece of land, in the middle of our town's High Priority Forest Block? Picnicked stream-side on the tables surrounded by a huge diversity of trees and wild flowers? Enjoyed the Story Walk created by the Blake Memorial Library?

Come join us on Saturday October 16th at 10am for another Conserving Corinth's Rural Character event at the FX Shea Town Forest. Ginny Barlow, Corinth's Tree Warden and renowned expert in all things wild will lead a tree identification walk for families of all ages. Bring the kids, there will be fun activities for them, or come yourself and learn about this incredible asset owned and operated by the town.

Have some cider and donuts as well and share your ideas with the Conservation Commission about how to make our town forest a better place. What events would you like to see there, what facilities would you want to see.

The Town Forest is at the end of Wilson Road, a right turn off of Coppermine Road, just a short ride from Cookeville Center…..look for the new signs!

Blake Memorial Library held a Community Conversation on Sunday, July 25, 2021. The purpose of the conversation was to gather input from the community as the library embarks on its strategic planning process for 2022-2027. The meeting was held under the new tent in the library’s backyard and participants were treated to pizza from Rob Rinaldi’s pizza oven. About 30 members from the community attended in addition to library staff and trustees.
The discussion was focused around the following questions: What do you love about our library, or what do you think is working well? What usually brings you to the library, or what would bring you or your family to the library? What are your concerns? What could we be doing better? What would you like to see in the future?

There was plenty of positive feedback about the library including friendly staff, great kids’ programs, stimulating book discussions, and the new fiction collection. Many ideas for the future of the library were also generated. Some highlights were strategies for attracting teens to the library, expanding the classics collection, hosting civil political discussion, displaying and circulating additional resources, and creating a marketing plan. Ideally, patrons would like to see the library open more hours, and provide access to academic journals.

Attendees were also encouraged to fill out a survey either at the meeting or online through a link on the library website. Other library patrons have also been invited to complete the survey. Follow-up surveys for more specific information will be created based on the survey results.

The strategic planning committee has been meeting regularly and incorporating many of the gathered ideas into the Strategic Plan. The completed plan will be posted on the library website later this fall.

This work has been funded by a $3000 national grant awarded to the Blake Memorial Library to participate in the Libraries Transforming Communities initiative.

“Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Small and Rural Libraries (ARSL).”
