On September 7, 2026, at 4:21 PM, Columbia County 911 dispatched the Red Rock task force in response to a report of a structure fire within Red Rock’s district on Stonewall Road.
Red Rock Car 1 responded to the scene and updated Columbia County 911, reporting heavy smoke conditions and that a single-family home was fully involved.
Red Rock Car 1 established command and requested Battalion 5 tanker response and all available manpower to the scene.
Red Rock Engine 7612, with a full crew, arrived and laid 1,300 feet of large-diameter fire hose to move water to attack lines while Canaan 3441 established a dump site on Stonewall Rd at the entrance to the property to fill tankers.
Additional responding units sent manpower to the site and deployed portable ponds to supply water to the scene.
The fire was knocked down by 6:15 PM, and overhaul of the site commenced.
The Town of Canaan Highway Department was called in to assist with an excavator to remove debris, so firefighters could continue to bring the fire further under control.
No firefighters or civilians were injured.
The cause of fire remains under investigation.

Chatham Fire Company 5822, 5842 both with crew
Ghent Fire 2222 with crew and Car 1
Support Units.
Chatham Rescue responded with 204 and Car 1.
Columbia County Fire Coordinator responded with Cars 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
State Police responded with multiple units.
Stephentown mobilized to cover any additional calls in Canaan and Red Rock and stood by in quarters in our district during this incident.
The Town of Canaan Highway department responded with an excavator for overhaul.
