Instead of our normal Friday Fire Safety Tip, today we had the honor of sponsoring the "After the Fire" assembly at the East Brunswick High School.

The “After the Fire” program shares the powerful story of the tragic Seton Hall University dormitory fire that occurred on January 19, 2000. The fire claimed the lives of three students and injured dozens more, forever changing countless lives. Through their presentation, survivors Shawn and Alvaro provide a firsthand account of the events leading up to that night, the consequences of poor decisions, and the lasting impact fire can have on individuals, families, and entire communities.

As our students prepare to graduate and begin their college journeys, the lessons shared through this program are more important than ever. The presentation serves as a reminder that fire safety, personal responsibility, and looking out for one another can make all the difference.

We always look forward to welcoming Shawn and Alvaro each year and greatly appreciate their willingness to share their story with our students. Their message continues to leave a lasting impression and helps ensure the next generation understands the importance of fire safety both on campus and beyond.

Thank you to Sean and Alvaro for your dedication, your courage, and your commitment to educating young adults through your experience. We would also like to thank East Brunswick Public Schools and administrators for continually partnering with us and providing the time and opportunity to bring this important program to their students each year.

Are you a business owner or an employee whose workplace has a monitored fire alarm system?

If your building has a monitored fire alarm system and the fire alarm activates, your job is simple:

➡️ Evacuate immediately.
➡️ Move to a safe location.
➡️ Call 911 if it hasn't already been done.

DO NOT press buttons on the fire alarm control panel.

While it may be tempting to reset the system, or investigate the cause yourself, doing so can create serious problems:

❌ Resetting the system may erase important information that firefighters need to determine where the alarm originated.
❌ You could delay the fire department's response and investigation.
❌ If smoke detectors or other devices are still in alarm, resetting the panel may cause confusion and waste valuable time.
❌ Unauthorized operation of the fire alarm system could create liability issues and place occupants at risk.

Fire alarm systems are designed to protect lives. When the alarm sounds, treat every activation as a potential emergency until emergency responders determine otherwise.

Your responsibility is to safely evacuate and account for everyone in the building.

Get out, stay out!

🔥 Friday Fire Safety Tip 🔥

Memorial Day weekend is here! That means cookouts, gatherings, and celebrations. Unfortunately it seems like the nice weather only shows up Monday through Friday and disappears by the weekend.☔

As you enjoy the holiday weekend, remember to keep fire safety in mind:
- Never leave grills unattended
- Keep grills away from homes, decks, and anything that can burn
- Leave fireworks to the professionals
- Always keep a water source or extinguisher nearby

Most importantly, take time to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! 🇺🇸

🔥 Friday Fire Safety Tip 🔥

In the event of a fire or emergency, your first priority should always be to get out safely and call 911.

Do not stop to gather belongings, pets hiding under furniture, or anything else that can delay your escape. Seconds matter during a fire.

Remember:
• Call 911 only for real emergencies
• Get out first..then call from a safe location (meeting place)
• Never assume someone else already called
• Stay outside once you escape and wait for firefighters to arrive

Stay safe and have a great weekend!

🔥 Friday Fire Safety Tip 🔥

If you have a garage or even if you know someone who does.. remember that garages can quickly become hidden fire hazards if they become cluttered or improperly used for storage.

Gasoline, propane cylinders, paint, oily rags, batteries, and other flammable materials should always be stored safely and away from heat sources or electrical equipment.

Garage Safety Reminders 🚗:
• Keep flammables in approved containers
• Do not block electrical panels or exits
• Keep clutter away from water heaters or appliances
• Properly dispose of oily rags and old batteries
• Make sure smoke alarms near garages are working

A clean and organized garage isn’t just nice to have. It can help prevent a fire.

Stay safe and have a great weekend!

Today marked our last and final school visit, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day at Irwin School!

We wrapped up our school program with our Fire Safety Trailer, continuing to share important lessons on kitchen fire safety, bedroom safety, and how simple habits at home can help prevent fires.

The students did an outstanding job, staying engaged, asking great questions, and showing they’re ready to bring these lessons home.

Thank you to Irwin School for a great visit, and to all the schools we had the opportunity to work with. We appreciate the warm welcomes and the chance to help keep our community safe.

🔥 Friday Fire Safety Tip 🔥

Keep Metal Out of the Microwave.

It might seem obvious… but it happens more than you think.
Putting metal or aluminum foil in the microwave can cause sparks, arcing, and even fires. This includes things like foil containers, utensils, twist ties, and even plates with metallic trim.

Play it safe:
• Never put metal or aluminum foil in the microwave
• Avoid dishes with metallic edges or designs
• Remove takeout food from foil containers before reheating
• Stop the microwave immediately if you see sparks

A quick reheat shouldn’t turn into an emergency.

Stay safe and have a great weekend!

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit Halls Corner for a fire safety presentation focused on our senior community.

We discussed important topics including kitchen fire safety, the dangers of candles, common electrical hazards, and the added risks associated with oxygen use. We also reviewed what to do in an emergency, especially for those who may have mobility or other disabilities. Our goal is always to provide practical, easy-to-follow information that helps residents stay safe and prepared in their homes.

Thank you to everyone at Halls Corner for having us and taking the time to learn with us!
