For the second weekend in a row, our crews battled a tough woods fire requiring help from our mutual aid partners.
๐The Incidents:
- Last Week: A 3/4 acre woods fire off Strathmore Road required the assistance from Bridgewater Fire Department
- Today: While the engine and ambulance were en route to a medical call, we were dispatched to a woods fire off Union Street requiring the help from Whitman Fire / Rescue Whitman Firefighters Local 1769 Hanson Fire-Rescue Hanson Firefighters Local 2713
๐ฒToday's Challenges:
Access was incredibly difficult as the fire was located approximately 3/4 of a mile into the woods with rough terrain and had very tight paths for forestry trucks. Crews initially trekked in on foot and used hand tools to contain the 1 acre fire until trucks could get down the path to apply water. In total, the incident tied up crews for over 3 hours and required multiple shuttles back and forth to a hydrant for close to 2,000 gallons of water
๐คThank you to our Mutual Aid Partners:
This was a great team effort all around. Not only for help with the fires but also thank you to Bridgewater Fire Department and Hanson Firefighters Local 2713 Hanson Fire-Rescue today for covering 2 other medicals that came in while we were working in the woods.
โ A Reminder to the Community:
The area burned today appeared to be a possible hangout spot for kids. With hotter and drier weather, small fires can get out of control quickly and cause catastrophic damage. Please talk to your kids about the dangers of woods fires and report any signs of smoke immediately.
