This evening East Bernard EMS responded to a structure fire on Sycamore Circle in the Bernard Timbers area. Two occupants were rescued by fire fighters from inside the burning structure. One of the occupants was transported by ground to an area hospital and the other was taken by Life Flight. Both occupants are in stable condition.

Responding agencies were East Bernard EMS (2 ambulances and a supervisor), Wharton EMS (1 ambulance and a supervisor), Austin County EMS, Memorial Hermann Life Flight, East Bernard VFD, Hungerford VFD, Beasley FD, Wallis VFD, Eagle Lake VFD and Wharton County Sheriffs Office.

An outstading job was done by East Bernard VFD, EBEMS and bystanders in locating, getting access to and rescuing the occupants!!!

❄️ WINTER WEATHER SAFETY REMINDER

🚨As most of you know, there will be some below freezing temperatures and wet weather coming late this weekend. Here are some reminders and things to think about to stay safe, and to stay warm!

🧤 For the People

Dress in layers and limit time outdoors

Check on elderly neighbors, children, and those with medical needs

Know the signs of hypothermia: shivering, confusion, slurred speech.



Remember to bring pets inside to provide warm environment.

Cover or bring in plants

Drip faucets and insulate exposed pipes



If you or a loved one uses oxygen, ventilators, or medical devices:

Ensure backup power or batteries

Have a plan if power is lost

Keep emergency contacts accessible



TRAVEL

Avoid driving if roads are icy

Bridges and overpasses freeze first

Stay home if possible



CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) POISONING

Symptoms include:

Headache
Dizziness
Nausea or vomiting
Confusion or drowsiness

Never use indoors:
Generators
Grills or propane heaters
Vehicles running in garages

➡️ If CO exposure is suspected, get fresh air immediately and call 911
