On Thursday, June 11, 2026, multiple agencies, including the Brownwood Police and Fire Departments, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Early Police Department, and Lifeguard EMS, will be conducting Operation Safe Lion, a full-scale active shooter exercise at the Northwest Elementary campus.

The exercise will be an active threat-based scenario. The wide-ranging emergency response drill will be a large, coordinated training exercise within the school campus. Several emergency scenarios will be played out in real time, utilizing school district personnel, volunteers, local law enforcement, emergency response personnel, and Hendrick Medical Center employees.

Please note that some roadways near the campus will be barricaded, and there will be many emergency vehicles at and near the school campus during the exercise.

🚨SCAM ALERT🚨

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scammers sending false documents and text messages to members of the community regarding warrants. An example of one such document has been added below. Please be advised that neither the Sheriff’s Office nor the Courthouse will contact individuals by text, phone call, or email to request payment in reference to a warrant.

If you receive a message claiming there is a warrant for your arrest and demanding payment, do not respond, send money, or provide personal information. Additionally, do not go to the courthouse attempting to speak with a judge regarding the message.

Please disregard the communication and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
