Bricker-Price Block

Bricker-Price Block Community Event & Rental Venue Located in Madison County, Iowa, in the small town of Earlham, the Bricker-Price Block (consisting of C.D. Chestnut Ave.

Bricker Building, 115 S. on the south, and W. Price Building, 105 S. on the north) has a unified façade and a shared front central staircase and shared interior central stair landing on the second floor. The Bricker-Price Block occupies the prominent southwest corner at the intersection of First Street and Chestnut Avenue in the Earlham central business district, located on two-thirds of a subdivi

ded building lot. Built in 1900 to house the C.D. Bricker grocery and general store business and leased commercial space in the W.P. Price Building, with second-floor offices above each, the Bricker-Price Block also includes a 1919 one-story rear warehouse addition to the Bricker Building. These two adjoining but separately owned buildings were built at the same time by the same builder with a unified façade and matching cast-iron storefronts, and thus the two buildings are jointly known historically as the Bricker-Price Block.

🚨 LOCATION UPDATE: Due to the extreme heat, this presentation will now take place upstairs at Bricker-Price Block in Earlham.

Senior Speaker Series: Week 3️⃣ of 1️⃣4️⃣

In celebration of America’s 250th birthday, the Madison County Genealogical Society (MCGS) is hosting three cemetery walks throughout Madison County in 2026. This presentation was supposed to take place at the Earlham Cemetery, but due to the extreme heat, we will be gathering upstairs at Bricker-Price Block instead of at the cemetery.

During the presentation, MCGS members will share the stories of eight individuals with family connections to American Revolutionary War ancestors and deep roots in the Earlham area.

The idea for these cemetery walks came from the Jean Marie Cardinell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Des Moines. Several MCGS members are also members of the chapter and are “Daughters,” meaning they have documented ancestors who served in the American Revolutionary War.

To celebrate this special America250 year, local Daughters drew on their past experiences with cemetery walks across Madison County and partnered with MCGS to bring these stories of local history to our communities.

While we won’t be walking the cemetery due to the heat, this one-hour presentation will bring these fascinating local stories indoors.

🚨 After School Program Update 🚨

After a lot of behind-the-scenes planning and consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to put our Kids Club After School Program on hold for the remainder of 2026. We simply weren’t able to get the program fully up to speed, and where we wanted it to be in time for this Fall, so we’re taking a step back, giving ourselves the time to build it right, researching funding opportunities, and looking ahead to a stronger launch in 2027.

The good news? Kids Club After School isn’t going away! 💕

We’ve started a waitlist for our 2027 program, and families who join will be the first to hear when registration opens. Since spots will be first-come, first-served, joining the waitlist is the best way to stay in the loop and be ready to register!

And finally, a HUGE thank you to all of the families who gave Kids Club After School a try this week. 💕 It was so much fun having your kiddos with us, and their smiles, energy, and personalities will definitely be missed around here! 🥲

We’re also grateful for our community's support, trust, and willingness to try something new with us. We can’t wait to welcome even more kiddos back in 2027!

Stay tuned! We’ve got big things planned for Kids Club After School! 💛

POV: You’re an elder millennial running a nonprofit in small-town Iowa. 😂

One minute you’re answering emails, the next you’re moving tables and chairs, making a social media post, solving a crisis, planning an event, trying out a new afterschool program, and somehow becoming the person who knows everything about upkeep on a historic building.

It’s not always glamorous. It’s definitely never boring. But getting to do meaningful work in the community I love? I wouldn’t trade it. 💕

Small town. Big dreams. Questionable work-life balance. 😂
