A lively and welcoming Scottish Country Dance class Monday nights in Eagle, near Boise, Idaho. No partner is needed and beginners are always welcome! Teacher Bios

Monica Pollard began Scottish Country dancing in 1981 in Thousand Oaks, CA, with teacher Robb Quint. She was in two SCD performance groups in southern California for years; the MacLeod Dancers led by Ann Skipper, and the Waverley Dancer

s led by James Lomath. In her 20's, Monica competed in Irish step and figure dancing, and Scottish Highland. She passed the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society's Full teaching certificate exam in 2010. Since 2006 she has been teaching for the Thistle & Ghillies SCD club in Boise, ID. Monica was the workshop guest teacher for the High Desert Scottish Dancers in Bend/Sisters, OR, in 2011 and 2014, and was the SCD guest teacher for The Heather & Rose Country Dancers at Suttle Lake dance camp in 2011 and 2016. In addition to SCD, Monica plays piano with her husband's band, The Acrasians, at contra-dances, or is the band's dance caller at weddings and other events.

At last night’s class, Monica led us in Swashbuckling Iain (J8x32), the Lea Rig (S8x32), the Machine without Horses (J8x32), and the Braes of Breadalbane (S8x32).

No fist fights occurred. At least none inside the hall.

We are considering expanding our classes to twice a month, on 2nd and 4th Mondays. That would place our next class on June 22nd. As it is firmed up, details will follow.

At last night’s class, Monica taught the Lea Rig, a 32-bar strathspey for 2 couples, which included a half-diamond Poussette and Petronella turns. An advanced dance with new-to-some footwork that we were able to work through.

Ken led the class in a newly devised dance, Lower Expectations, a 32-bar reel for 3 couples, that had its own confusing elements. He thanks the class for their patience in proofing his new-to-the-world dance.

Our next class will be June 8th, the second Monday in June, from 7-9 pm. Come dance with us. It’s a good workout for your brain, too.

Our next Scottish Country Dance class is Monday, May 11th. It's sorta fun. You should give it a try.

At last night’s class, Monica taught Lamb Skinnet, a 32-bar jig — first published in 1757 — followed by Sugar Candie, a 32-bar strathspey, and the Riverside, another 32-bar strathspey. Coletta taught Further Expectations, a 32-bar jig. We contemplated devising a dance with the name of Lower Expectations, but, well, I dunno, it probably wouldn’t be that good. Maybe.

Our classes are the 2nd Mondays of the month, so the next one will be held on May 11th.
