Early mornings… late nights… so much time spent with this poor male Hoary bat. He came into rehab with a pretty serious wing injury, which seems to be common with hoary bats. Even with round-the-clock medical attention, he was too weak to keep fighting.
He was such a beautiful little guy❤️‍🩹

Today’s patient is a Common Raven. And in fact, this is a fledgling (baby) raven! You can tell by the pink gape at the edge of the beak, pale eyes, and pin feathers (new feathers that haven’t opened from the keratin sheath).
Ravens can breed as early as February, with eggs laid in March, and new fledglings leaving the nest in April/May.
This one was sitting in the same spot for a couple days and didn’t attempt to fly away when approached. We are giving this young one everything it needs to get healthy again 🖤
