Maverick County Jury Finds Nolber Dominguez-Noy Guilty of Smuggling of Persons and Sentences Him to 10 Years In Prison

On September 16, 2025, a Maverick County jury found Nolber Dominguez-Noy guilty of Smuggling of Persons following a two-day jury trial. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Roxanne Meraji and Ramses Betancourt of the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stem from an incident on July 12, 2024 when a Maverick County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2020 Kia Altima based on illegal tint. The deputy then obtained consent to search and discovered two people in the trunk of the vehicle.

After reviewing the evidence, the jury unanimously found Dominguez-Noy guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

This achievement could not be done without the help of the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and the 293rd District Attorney’s investigator Yesica Jasso.

Maverick County Jury Finds Arturo P. Magaña, Jr. Guilty of Possession of a Controlled Substance

On August 1, 2025, a Maverick County jury found Arturo P. Magaña, Jr. guilty of Possession of a Controlled Substance following a two-day jury trial. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Riojas and Ramses Betancourt of the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stem from an incident on October 6, 2021 when a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper conducted a traffic stop based on expired registration. When the trooper conducted a frisk for a knife the defendant said he had on his waist, the trooper found a glass pipe with a white crystal substance inside of a sock stuffed inside the defendant’s waistband. A forensic scientist with the Texas DPS crime laboratory in Laredo testified at the jury trial and her report was submitted to the jury that found the substance to be .49 grams of methamphetamine.

After reviewing the evidence, the jury unanimously found Magaña guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This achievement could not be done without the help of the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and the 293rd District Attorney’s investigators Yesica Jasso and Richard Guzman.

The sentencing has been set for September 8, 2025.

Maverick County Jury Finds Juan Carrizales Guilty of Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle

On July 1, 2025, a Maverick County jury found Juan Carrizales guilty of Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle following a two-day jury trial. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney’s Ruben Ramos and Hugo Zapata of the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stemmed from an incident on August 31, 2020, when deputies with the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Carrizales for violating a protective order. Instead of complying, Carrizales fled the scene in a vehicle, prompting a pursuit. He later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Law enforcement apprehended him four days later. The entire incident was captured on both body camera and dash camera footage, which was presented to the jury during trial.

After reviewing the evidence, the jury unanimously found Carrizales guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This achievement could not be done without the help of the Maverick County Sherriff’s Office and the 293rd District Attorney’s support staff.

The sentencing has been set for August 29, 2025 where he will be facing a range of punishment of a minimum of 2 years and a maximum at 20 years.

Maverick County Jury Assesses 90 year and 20 year Prison Sentence against a S*x Offender

On April 2, 2025, a jury in Maverick County found Hector Javier Carrazco Peña GUILTY of S*xual Assault with a Prohibited Person (Cause No. 23-04-08507-MCRAJA) and Indecency with a Child by S*xual Contact (Cause No. 23-04-08508-MCRAJA) in the 365th Judicial District Court. After reviewing all the evidence, the jury unanimously sentenced him to 90 years in prison at the Texas Department of Corrections for the sexual assault charge and 20 years in prison for the indecency charge.

The trial team was led by Assistant District Attorneys Ruben Ramos and Hugo Zapata, representing the State of Texas, along with support from the Crimes Victim’s Advocate, Brenda De Hoyos and DA Investigators Clemente De Hoyos and Richard Guzman.

The facts were as followed:

The troubling incidents began when the victim was a student at Benavides Elementary School.
She confided in the school nurse about inappropriate touching by her stepfather. As time passed, in 2019, the victim reported to the Texas Ranger that her stepfather, Hector Javier Carrazco, had sexually assaulted her and fathered her child. Texas Ranger Jose Sanchez collected DNA samples from Hector Javier Carrazco, 47 years of age, and from his stepdaughter, and her child. The results corroborated that Hector Javier Carrazco was indeed the biological
father of the victim’s child. The jury unanimously agreed with the State of Texas and found the defendant guilty on the 2 charges.

The District Attorney’s office wishes to acknowledge the diligent efforts of the Maverick County
Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the District Attorney’s investigators and staff for their
significant role in preparing this case for trial.

The 293rd District Attorney’s Office reaffirms its commitment to protecting the community,
emphasizing that such crimes carry severe consequences. Our children deserve safety, not
victimization.

The Office of the District Attorney, along with the EPISD Police Department and the Maverick Juvenile Probation Department, presented evidence today to detain two 16-year-old student juveniles for assaulting another student on school grounds. Both juveniles will be temporarily detained for the next 10 business days until the case is referred for prosecution. A petition to adjudicate them as delinquent juveniles will be filed soon. The message is clear: bullying and assaults on our students on school grounds will not be tolerated.

On May 6th, 2024, the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office Operation Lone Star prosecutors began a jury trial for the offense of smuggling of persons with possession of a firearm, a second degree felony. After 2 days of trial, the jury deliberated and found the defendant guilty. The jury then assessed punishment at 3 years confinement in the institutional division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Assistant District Attorneys Marlowe Zamora, Ramses Betancourt, and Amanda Riojas were the prosecutors who worked diligently in preparation of this case. We thank our BPU/OLS investigator, Michael Torralba, and the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this matter. We thank the jurors for their dedication and hard work in rendering a verdict according to the law and the evidence presented. The District Attorney’s Office will continue to pursue justice in Maverick, Dimmit, and Zavala counties.

Assistant District Attorneys Ruben Ramos and Marlowe Zamora tried a burglary of a Building case against a defendant who entered a storage unit and removed items that didn’t belong to her. The jurors of Maverick County found the defendant GUILTY and held her accountable for her actions. This sends a message to the community that this type of behavior will not be tolerated and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

On February 12th, 2024, the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office began its very first jury trial for the offense of smuggling of persons. After 2 days of trial, the jury deliberated and convicted the defendant for smuggling of persons with intent to obtain a pecuniary benefit, a 2nd degree felony. The jury then assessed punishment at 5.5 years confinement in the institutional division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Riojas, Ramses Betancourt, and Marlowe Zamora were the prosecutors who worked diligently in preparation of this case. We thank TX DPS for their assistance in this matter. We thank the jurors for their dedication and hard work in rendering a verdict according to the law and the evidence presented. The District Attorney’s Office will continue to pursue justice in Maverick, Dimmit, and Zavala counties.
