WHAT: National Trails Day Hike on June 6, 2026 at 8:30 AM

WHERE: Clear Creek Trail in Cimarron Canyon. Meet at the trailhead near Mile Marker 292 on Highway 292 in Cimarron Canyon. No fee for the hike, but All NM State Park regulations apply regarding parking and Park access fees. The Friends Membership Parking Pass is valid for parking for this hike.

CLEAR CREEK TRAIL INFO: Moderate to moderately difficult
· Distance: About 4-miles round trip passing three waterfalls.
· Participants don't have to hike to the end unless they want to see the 3rd waterfall.
· Elevation Gain: 800 ft.
· Hiking Trail follows Clear Creek and crosses several makeshift log bridges.
· A short section of the trail is steep and narrow.
· The trail ends at the third waterfall and returns along the same route.
· Participants aren’t required to go to the end of the trail and can determine when they will return to the trailhead as the trail is up and back on the same path.
· Basically, going out is uphill and returning is downhill.
· Dress appropriate for outdoor weather conditions.
· Bring water and a snack for yourself.
· A walking/hiking stick is helpful, especially for the steep section.

The Friends of Eagle Nest Lake and Cimarron Canyon State Parks would like to thank all the participants that showed up Saturday, May 9 for the Annual Children's Fishing Derby. 82 kids between the ages of 3-11 registered for the tournament. Prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the two age categories 3-7 / 8-11

32nd Annual Children’s Fishing Derby is Saturday May 9th. Registration starts at 9:30 am and tournament starts at 10:00 am .

We have Give-aways, T-Shirts and prizes for winners. This is one of our favorite events. All the details are listed on the attachment .

Effective today February 23, the Eagle Nest Lake is open to boat fishing.

Update : Eagle Nest Lake

The Ice has thawed at the south end of Eagle Nest Lake allowing for bank fishing that can be accessed from the Six-Mile Day Use Area and a small area near the South Boat Ramp. However, the Lake's surface remains closed to all activities because of unsafe ice conditions remaining on a majority of the Lake.
