Dear Parents and Families,

Summer is finally here, and we hope your family has an amazing break filled with fun, sunshine, and adventure! While summer is a wonderful time to relax, it’s also important to keep young minds growing through reading.

This summer, we are encouraging students to spend a little less time on electronics and a little more time getting lost in a good book. Reading helps students keep the progress they made all year long and builds creativity, imagination, and confidence.

To make reading extra exciting, we are bringing back something many parents may remember from the 80s and 90s β€” the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program! Students can earn rewards for reading and celebrate their hard work just like kids did years ago.

Students can also print out the attached Summer Reading Bingo Card filled with fun reading challenges and activities. As students complete squares, they can bring their Bingo card to the office on Tuesdays during School Library time to earn prizes! They can also pick up one in the library if needed.

Be sure to also check out all the theme days happening at our school library during the month of June. There will be great opportunities for students to read, explore, and stay connected with friends throughout the summer.

A few easy ways to encourage reading at home:

Visit the library and let your child choose books they enjoy

Set aside a daily reading time

Read together as a family

Delay screen time for book time (they might get hooked!)

Let kids read anything that interests them β€” comics, magazines, mysteries, sports books, and graphic novels all count!

Thank you for helping us encourage a summer filled with reading, learning, and imagination. We can’t wait to celebrate all the books your students read this summer!

Have a safe, happy, and book-filled summer!
