🚒 Structure Fire Response – Oak St. 🚒

Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Oak St. this evening. Upon arrival, crews determined the fire involved an animal pen and shed.

Firefighters were able to quickly push back the flames from two dogs trapped inside the pen and safely cut them out, preventing any major injuries. The fire was then brought under control and fully extinguished.

The occupants believe a heat lamp may have been the cause of the fire.

We’re thankful for a safe outcome and remind everyone to use caution when operating heat lamps or other heating devices near combustible materials.

đźš’ Busy Day for Your Eagle Lake Fire Department

Your Eagle Lake Fire Department responded to two calls today.

This morning, we provided mutual aid to the Wallis Fire Department on FM 1093 for a two-vehicle accident where one vehicle rolled over and caught fire. Thankfully, all occupants were able to exit safely. Eagle Lake units assisted by supplying water and helping block the roadway to keep first responders and the public safe while crews worked the scene.

Later in the day, we were dispatched to Endeavors for a reported gas odor. Our crews conducted a thorough investigation and found no gas present inside the building. The odor was coming from a helicopter that had landed on the helipad at Rice Medical Center.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and are grateful that no injuries were reported. As always, thank you for supporting your local firefighters. 👨‍🚒

đźš’ Busy 24 Hours for Your Fire Department đźš’

The Eagle Lake Fire Department had a very active Thursday and Friday, responding to three calls within a 24-hour period.

On Thursday night, crews were dispatched to a structure fire at a duplex that caused significant damage to the interior. Thanks to the rapid response of our firefighters, the fire was quickly brought under control, preserving the overall integrity of the structure. While there was extensive damage to the occupants’ personal property, the building itself is repairable. We greatly appreciate the Garwood Fire Department for their assistance with overhaul operations.

In the early hours of Friday morning, we were called to a major traffic hazard at the four-way stop in Altair. A passenger vehicle struck an eighteen-wheeler, rupturing a hydraulic oil tank and spilling oil across a large portion of the roadway, creating extremely dangerous driving conditions. Our crews contained the spill using oil absorbent materials, and Delgado’s Wrecker Service handled cleanup and proper disposal. The Texas Department of Transportation then sanded and swept the roadway to ensure it was safe for motorists.

Shortly after returning to service, we were dispatched to the Atwater Prairie Chicken Refuge for a reported electrical fire at their new visitor center. Fortunately, the fire self-extinguished prior to our arrival and no further action was needed.

We’re proud of our firefighters for their quick, professional response and grateful for the strong partnerships that help keep our community safe. 👨‍🚒

🔥 Training for the Worst 🔥

Monday night, your firefighters trained for one of the toughest scenarios we face — operating in heavy smoke with extremely low visibility while rescuing a victim from a structure. When you can’t see, distractions are high, and conditions are disorienting, training is what allows firefighters to move with purpose and work safely.

You can’t prepare for these situations when they happen — you have to train for them beforehand. Speed, communication, and discipline only come from repetition under realistic conditions.

This job demands grit, focus, and teamwork. It isn’t for the weak.

A big thank you to Trafco Industries for allowing us to use their building for this training. Support from local businesses helps keep our firefighters ready to protect the community. đźš’đź’Ş

Your Eagle Lake Firefighters were out early this morning responding to a major 18-wheeler accident involving patient entrapment and downed power lines on the vehicle, creating a very dangerous scene for both rescuers and the patient.

Thanks to a quick and coordinated response, the patient was safely extricated and transported by Colorado County EMS with minor injuries. The Colorado County Sheriff’s Office worked the incident, and Delgado’s Wrecker Service removed all wreckage once operations were complete.

We are thankful for the strong teamwork and a positive outcome in a situation that could have been much worse. Please slow down and stay alert on our roadways.
