West Tennessee Sports Association Announces Winners of the 14th Annual West Tennessee Football Championship.
Dyersburg, TN — The West Tennessee Sports Association proudly announces the champions of the 14th Annual West Tennessee Football Championship hosted at Dyersburg High School and Dyer County High School. The tournament showcased the talent of 31 area teams representing 13 local communities across West Tennessee. This year’s champions and finalists received commemorative rings and earned the title of West Tennessee Champions for their grade level. More information about the association is available on the WTNSA website.
Tournament Highlights
• Third Grade Division: Eleven teams competed. The fifth-seeded Dyersburg Jr. Trojans captured the championship, defeating the third-seeded Obion County Junior Rebels 24–0 to earn the program’s second-ever championship.
• Fourth Grade Division: Ten teams competed. In one of the tournament’s most memorable games played in heavy rain, the third-seeded Dyersburg Jr. Trojans defeated the top-seeded Huntingdon Junior Mustangs to win the program’s third championship and second tournament title, securing victory with 30 seconds remaining. Both teams delivered a hard-fought performance that will be remembered despite the weather.
• Fifth Grade Division: Eleven teams competed. In a defensive battle played in the rain, the number-two-seeded Union City Junior Tornadoes defeated the top-seeded Martin Chargers, completing two long touchdown passes to secure the win. With this victory Union City extended their program lead to 14 total association titles in the program’s 14-year history and completed a three-year championship run with only one loss in association play.
Special Recognition
• TranPerfect Music City Bowl Support: Thanks to the support of the TranPerfect Music City Bowl, championship players, coaches, and cheerleaders received tickets to attend the Music City Bowl in Nashville as part of their championship celebration.
• Coach Certification: Through tournament proceeds this year, the association certified 110 coaches across 17 communities to help meet state volunteer regulations.
• Stanton Quality of Life Foundation Support: With support from the Stanton Quality of Life Foundation, the West Tennessee Sports Association, the program arm of the foundation, is supporting the expansion of youth sports opportunities and the development of local programs.
Association Requirements and Philosophy: To be part of the West Tennessee Sports Association, teams must affiliate with USA Football, carry minimum recommended insurance, certify coaches, and adopt and play by the association's rules and regulations. We strive to help programs develop local teams that feed school programs and support youth development within their communities. Each team remains its own independent entity and is responsible for its program; teams are volunteer-run, and the association supports them in USA Football age progression and in advancing the game to prepare youth for the next level of play. Each group must meet minimal standards to protect its organization and the association wtnsa.org.
Association Role and Future Plans The West Tennessee Sports Association supports independent community clubs by organizing end-of-season tournaments, coordinating insurance, certifying coaches through affiliated programs, and structuring seasonal play to build sustainable community sports programs. Our immediate priority is building out tackle football across our 17-member towns. Once tackle is established and running smoothly, we plan to expand into additional sports, including flag football and pickleball. Any assistance in building the youth program initiatives structure and onboarding volunteer administrators is greatly appreciated.
