Northwest Tennessee Youth Football Association

Northwest Tennessee Youth Football Association To share information about West Tennessee Sports Association. Proceeds from the tournament pay for coaches certifications of all participanting teams.

Northwest Tennessee Football Association is a program of the YMCA of Dyer County devoted to building stronger communities by allowing an area to build a tackle football program representing a specific school program or town. Utilizing USA Football certifications and resources the association gives local programs a chance to be independent to promote local players but gives them the opportuntiy to

play against other towns and teams ending with a single elimination tournament. The YMCA helps association members in securing proper insurance, referees, and work on building a quality program for all participants. The Association has organized rules of play and allows programs to play a schedule of their choosing against teams agreeing to play by the same rules and regulations. Each program is independent of the YMCA. Each association member will be governed by local leadership with all legal and ethical responsibilities for their teams. Members will be required to cover their own cost of equipment, background checks, uniforms, insurance, referees, supplies, and cost to run their teams. Enrollment as a USA Football and mandate all coaches being certified through USA Football is required by association members. Other requirements include adopting USA Football, league by laws, rules and regulations and programs. Teams must also be covered by liability insurance naming the YMCA and its board as insured and a Hold Harmless and Indemnity waiver naming YMCA of Dyer County to allow play within the association. Kicking off in 2011 the YMCA organizes local towns and areas to play tackle football for teams playing as 3rd , 4th, 5th and 6th grades. One goal of the Association is providing a league that provides participants at the grade level the opportunity to prepare for their next level of football. Utilizing USA Football age progression allowing players to advance as far as their ability and desire will take them. That each participating organization helps build our players toward junior high and high school programs in the areas they play in. This program allows local programs to provide a local program that plays against their local peers. The YMCA helps the volunteers of each program have abilities to participate in football for their local area, building community pride and keeping local kids playing on a team representing their hometowns. Not associated directly with a school program the overall goal is given players to play with their peers that we hope group of players build team chemistry, bonds, friendships, relationships, and community pride we hope last to graduation of high school playing days. The purpose of the Association shall be to organize and supervise organized playing of The Association develops, arranges, and prepares competitive football games under specialized rules and regulations in Northwest Tennessee, Southwest Kentucky, and Boot heel of Missouri. We strive to create a proper interest; develop enthusiasm for the sport of football, teaching the fundamentals, through practice, competition, and sportsmanship. One goal is to provide all players the opportunity to participate in each game and develop to their full potential. To encourage participants to maintain high scholastic grades in school and develop a compassionate attitude, while developing a good work ethic and good sportsmanship. We attempt to build community by focusing on building programs to feed local school programs hoping that a group of players stay together throughout their high school years. Teams wanting to participate in the association must engage by first of August with a association meeting usually done the first two weeks of August. Season games starts in month of September and tournaments are played last two weeks of October. If you have intrest in particapating in the association you can reach out to Randy Butler at YMCA of Dyer County by calling 731-288-9622 or email: [email protected].

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Tennessee Sports Association Announces Winners of the 14th Annual West Tennessee Football Championship.

Dyersburg, TN — The West Tennessee Sports Association proudly announces the champions of the 14th Annual West Tennessee Football Championship hosted at Dyersburg High School and Dyer County High School. The tournament showcased the talent of 31 area teams representing 13 local communities across West Tennessee. This year’s champions and finalists received commemorative rings and earned the title of West Tennessee Champions for their grade level. More information about the association is available on the WTNSA website.

Tournament Highlights

• Third Grade Division: Eleven teams competed. The fifth-seeded Dyersburg Jr. Trojans captured the championship, defeating the third-seeded Obion County Junior Rebels 24–0 to earn the program’s second-ever championship.

• Fourth Grade Division: Ten teams competed. In one of the tournament’s most memorable games played in heavy rain, the third-seeded Dyersburg Jr. Trojans defeated the top-seeded Huntingdon Junior Mustangs to win the program’s third championship and second tournament title, securing victory with 30 seconds remaining. Both teams delivered a hard-fought performance that will be remembered despite the weather.

• Fifth Grade Division: Eleven teams competed. In a defensive battle played in the rain, the number-two-seeded Union City Junior Tornadoes defeated the top-seeded Martin Chargers, completing two long touchdown passes to secure the win. With this victory Union City extended their program lead to 14 total association titles in the program’s 14-year history and completed a three-year championship run with only one loss in association play.

Special Recognition
• TranPerfect Music City Bowl Support: Thanks to the support of the TranPerfect Music City Bowl, championship players, coaches, and cheerleaders received tickets to attend the Music City Bowl in Nashville as part of their championship celebration.

• Coach Certification: Through tournament proceeds this year, the association certified 110 coaches across 17 communities to help meet state volunteer regulations.

• Stanton Quality of Life Foundation Support: With support from the Stanton Quality of Life Foundation, the West Tennessee Sports Association, the program arm of the foundation, is supporting the expansion of youth sports opportunities and the development of local programs.

Association Requirements and Philosophy: To be part of the West Tennessee Sports Association, teams must affiliate with USA Football, carry minimum recommended insurance, certify coaches, and adopt and play by the association's rules and regulations. We strive to help programs develop local teams that feed school programs and support youth development within their communities. Each team remains its own independent entity and is responsible for its program; teams are volunteer-run, and the association supports them in USA Football age progression and in advancing the game to prepare youth for the next level of play. Each group must meet minimal standards to protect its organization and the association wtnsa.org.

Association Role and Future Plans The West Tennessee Sports Association supports independent community clubs by organizing end-of-season tournaments, coordinating insurance, certifying coaches through affiliated programs, and structuring seasonal play to build sustainable community sports programs. Our immediate priority is building out tackle football across our 17-member towns. Once tackle is established and running smoothly, we plan to expand into additional sports, including flag football and pickleball. Any assistance in building the youth program initiatives structure and onboarding volunteer administrators is greatly appreciated.

Schedule Change Notice
Due to High School soccer needing the field at 6:00 PM, the 5th grade semi-final game between UC and Newbern will be moved to 3 Oaks at 5:00 PM.
We understand this is not the ideal situation, but it is the best option that impacts the fewest teams. Please note:

The game will be barebones—no concessions and limited atmosphere.
Our priority is ensuring the game is played.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please inform your team and parents of this change.
