A few weeks ago Dwight participated in an active practice house burn in Ulysses. It was great training to practice interior attack especially for our newer Firefighters. It also provides opportunity to run & set up equipment, practice nozzle technique, to learn how to put on or help others with SCBA’s & to work with other departments. Great training day!! 🚒🔥

We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts & prayers this past week as we lost & laid to rest Firefighter Marty. We will forever have a void on the department…. A special thanks to the departments who joined us for the funeral & joined in the processional, Ulysses Volunteer Fire Dept, Brainard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Bellwood Volunteer Fire Department - Nebraska, Linwood Volunteer Fire & Rescue, David City Volunteer Fire Department - the ladder truck displaying the flag as we entered the cemetery was beautiful. We would also like to thank Butler County Communications for toning out Marty’s last call & sounding the town whistle & also to the Butler County NE Sheriff's Office for providing traffic control.

Yesterday we not only lost one of our own; a dedicated firefighter who loved serving his community, but also lost a great friend, neighbor & someone who loved his family beyond words. Marty will be missed by anyone who had the privilege of meeting him – even once. He was a hard worker, someone who knew how to have fun but also someone we all could count on. Our department & community will have a void & we will miss him greatly. Marty, from your Fire Family, thank you for your service & the memories, you will be missed but not forgotten. We’ll take it from here…

ONE FOR THE BOOKS. 🚒🔥
From Saturday at 4:25 PM until Sunday night, our crews worked tirelessly at the County Road G fire to manage a 100-acre wooded fire. This was a massive undertaking, and we couldn't have done it alone.

A huge thank you to the 25 different entities that stepped up to help us. From the initial call to the final cleanup, the teamwork was incredible. A special shout-out to the Sunday crew —the paths you cut through the timber to mop up the scene was impressive and much appreciated. Another shout-out to our local farmers who dropped everything to bring out their tractors and discs. Those fire lines were critical in stopping the spread and protecting the surrounding ground. All of this work kept numerous homes and families safe.

Weston is lucky to have neighbors like you. Thank you for the help!

We provided provided mutual aid to Weston on a fire yesterday that had started on Saturday in a very heavily wooded area. We did a lot of clean up which included cutting trees, burying small timber that was smoldering & putting water on hot spots.
