HOUSING REHABILITATION GRANT PROGRAM

The Village of Dwight is partnering with the North Central Illinois Council of Governments (NCICG) on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehabilitation Program funded by the federal government. Program partners also include the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Tri-County Opportunities Council (TCOC).

The goal of this program is to rehabilitate approximately 10โ€“12 single-family, owner-occupied homes within the Village limits for low-to-moderate income households. Improvements may help make homes safer, healthier, more energy efficient, and bring them up to current code standards.

The program may also assist residents with accessibility and mobility-related improvements that help individuals safely remain in their homes. Eligible improvements may include handicapped-accessible bathroom remodels, wheelchair ramps, improved entrances and walkways, grab bars, stair and trip hazard corrections, and other safety-related repairs inside and outside the home designed to improve accessibility and daily living conditions.

Residents interested in participating may stop by Village Hall to pick up a survey or contact Village Hall at 815-584-3077 for additional information.

Residents may also receive a letter and survey in the mail regarding this program. We strongly encourage homeowners to complete and return the survey, as participation is a critical part of the grant application process and helps demonstrate community need.

This is a quick turnaround, as completed surveys must be returned by June 3rd.

Dwight EMS had an incredible time participating in Camp 911! ๐Ÿš‘

This event was a huge success, and we truly enjoy getting children involved in learning about emergency services and understanding how first responders help our communities every day. Building confidence, awareness, and safety education at a young age is something we are proud to support.

Throughout the day, the children learned about ambulance operations, some of the medical devices and equipment we use, bleeding control techniques, and even participated in team relay races focused on calling 911 and performing CPR skills. ๐Ÿฉบโ˜Ž๏ธ

One of the highlights of the day was the helicopter landing at the school, which gave the kids an exciting opportunity to learn more about air medical transport and emergency response.

A special thank you to OSF Life Flight for participating and helping make the day even more memorable for the children. ๐Ÿš

We also want to recognize and thank all of our Dwight EMS providers and staff who took the time to teach, mentor, and interact with the children throughout the event. Your dedication to community education and public service does not go unnoticed.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Camp 911 such a great experience for the kids and our community! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

โค๏ธ Another step forward for public safety in our community! โค๏ธ

Dwight EMS is proud to announce the installation of a new Public Access AED at the west side of Renfrew Park near the tennis and pickleball courts. This AED is available to help provide rapid access to lifesaving care during a cardiac emergency.

In the event of an emergency, simply call 911. The telecommunicator can provide the access code to open the cabinet while emergency responders are being dispatched. Early CPR and early defibrillation can make all the difference during sudden cardiac arrest.

This project would not have been possible without the support of several generous community donors. We would like to sincerely thank:

โ€ข Eric & Andrea Scheuer
โ€ข The Dwight Lions Club
โ€ข Dwight VFW Post 2608
โ€ข Mason Livingston Lodge #371

We would also like to thank Streator Onized Credit Union for their donation last year that supported the purchase of the AED cabinets and signage for this community program.

We are incredibly thankful for the continued support from our community and local organizations that help us improve access to lifesaving equipment throughout our area. Together, we are making Dwight a safer place for everyone. ๐Ÿš‘โšก
