REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the families and communities forever changed by that tragic day.

We remember the first responders, firefighters, law enforcement officers, military members, and countless others who showed incredible courage, compassion, and selflessness.

September 11 holds a very personal meaning for The Salvation Army Durham. Our very own Majors David & Angie Repass were serving at the Pentagon in the days following the attack. They arrived just one day after the attacks and joined the response efforts.

During their time at the Pentagon, they provided pastoral care, administrative support, and practical assistance to first responders, military personnel, and the families of those who lost their lives.

They witnessed firsthand the pain, grief, courage, and compassion that followed one of our nation's darkest days. Their service was a small part of a much larger effort to bring comfort, hope, and support to those who were hurting.

Today, we remember those who lost their lives.
We honor those who served.
We pray for those whose lives were forever changed.
And we will never forget.

For almost 28 years, Debbie has faithfully served with The Salvation Army, dedicating her life to helping others and making a difference in our community.

As our Director of Social Services, Debbie is often one of the first people to meet individuals and families who are facing difficult circumstances. Her heart for people is evident in the compassion, kindness, and dignity she shows to everyone who walks through our doors.

For Debbie, this is more than a job—it’s a calling. She believes in meeting people where they are, offering hope when life feels overwhelming, and reminding others that they are not alone.

After nearly three decades of service, her passion for helping people continues to make an impact every single day.

Thank you, Debbie, for (soon to be) 28 years of faithful service, compassion, and love for our community! We are grateful for you!

All appointments for in-person Angel Tree applications are now FULL.

For families who were unable to secure an in-person appointment, online applications for children ages 0–12 will open October 5–11.

Please continue to watch our social media pages for more information and details as we get closer to October 5.

Our Spanish appointments are now completely full, but we still have some English appointments available.

If you were unable to schedule an appointment, you will have another opportunity to apply online October 5–11 for children ages 0–12.

We will share more details about the online application process as we get closer to October 5.

Tutor or Mentor Kids at the Bull City Youth Center
Help children build confidence, improve their skills, and succeed in school.

Help with Free Food Friday
Help prepare, serve, and distribute food to children and families in our community.

Ring the Bells
Join us during the Christmas season as a Red Kettle bell ringer and help provide hope to local families in need.

Angel Tree
Help make Christmas special for local children and families by assisting with our Angel Tree program.

Whether you have a few hours, a day, or want to volunteer regularly, there is a place for you!

Your time can change a life. Your service can strengthen our community.

We are looking for local businesses, churches, organizations, and community partners willing to host an Angel Tree this Christmas!

Hosting an Angel Tree is a simple but meaningful way to help children and families in our community experience the joy of Christmas. We’ll provide the tree and Angel Tags featuring gifts requested by local children. Your customers, members, employees, or visitors can choose an Angel Tag and purchase the gifts to make a child’s Christmas a little brighter.
