REAL Durham Our Vision: An equitable Durham where communities are poverty free and thriving.

We provide Training, Education, Coaching, Resource Referrals & Support across lines of race, class and privilege in order to increase and improve connectedness in our city. We do this through the provision of four core activities:

1) Building Intentional Relationships: To create a better understanding of connectedness and differences, to increased value in and compassion for each other and the co

mmunities we represent, to increase involvement and investment in volunteerism

2) Building Financial Stability & Wealth: Increasing and improving stabilized employment w/ benefits, fair wages, stable housing, affordable healthcare, marketable skills & knowledge, debt to income ratio, financial crisis management, college preparation, access and qualification for home ownership and access to reliable transportation

3) Building Equity: Increasing contribution to ethnic and gender minority-owned businesses, banking with local credit unions and financial institutions that invest in marginalized communities, build retirement and long-term investments with non-discriminatory practices,
minority scholarships and prioritizing the hiring and training of unemployed minorities.

4) Involvement in Activism & Advocacy: Increase involvement in state and local legislative anti-poverty strategies, anti-racism movements, economic justice movements, anti-poverty strategies in local initiatives and city and county planning, participating in PTAs for low-income schools and voter engagement.
