A new color!

If you thought that Tyrian purple (shellfish purple) was rare, this will blow up your mind!

😮We found the rarest dyestuff in the world: Tyrian blue!

This precious painted textile from the Royal Ontario Museum collection, with its blue-dyed fringe, was painted over 3000 years ago in ancient Egypt. It was an offering to the goddess Hathor, a goddess of the sky who was often represented by the colour blue. This blue dye is mentioned in the Bible and has only been identified a handful of times on archaeological textiles.

🌐Check out the publication on the analysis of this dye: https://www.mdpi.com/2571-9408/8/7/257

👉 Follow us to learn more about the analysis process.
