We are seeking holistic social impact through these initiatives:

Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope: A weekend immersion of visiting sites, hearing speakers, and spending time in reflection on how our stories, Durham's story, and God's story connect. Church Mobilization Network: A network that connects all the churches in Durham through geographically-based cohorts where pastors and leaders partn

er with other churches to listen to their communities and seek their flourishing. Community education: Events, workshops, and trainings to equip people to care for their neighbors in holistic ways.

Today at 5pm is our annual Sacred Fire: A Durham Pentecost Celebration but the LOCATION HAS CHANGED!!

Sacred Fire has moved to Blacknall Presbyterian Church, 1902 Perry Street, Durham.

Please share so we can spread the word!

In partnership with the Mt. Level Community Partnership for Racial Justice, Sacred Fire is a gathering - of worship, of building community - to celebrate God's act of sending the Holy Spirit to embrace "all bodies, all flesh, all tongues" (Dr. Luke Powery).

We want to invite everyone in Durham to join us as we celebrate and seek God's vision of unity, justice, community, and salvation.

One of the greatest ways to support the work of DurhamCares is to share about us with others.

DurhamCares Ambassadors do this by extending our reach into their communities. Our social media and newsletter platforms only go so far - ambassadors extend those audiences and provide a personal, relational, and communal way of spreading the love.

Every pilgrimage, we have the privilege of hearing from Virginia Williams - a participant in Durham's 1957 Royal Ice Cream Sit-In. Her story is part of ours.

The Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope connects Durham's story, your story, and God's story. Learn more and register at durhamcares.org/pilgrimage.

Our country's system of mass incarceration harms our own community and communities around the U.S. How do we imagine public safety in a way that honors the life and dignity of all people? How do we respond? Join us for two events:

Saturday, 4/18, 5pm at McDougald Terrace Picnic Shelter - "Faith-Based Service Network and Friends Community Vigil"

Join us for a vigil for people who have lost their lives to gun violence.

Thursday, 4/23, 6pm at St. Philip's Episcopal Church - "Incarceration in Durham: Listening, Learning, and Taking Action"

Join us for a discussion about public safety and incarceration in Durham. Learn how we can work toward a community where we all have equal access to freedom, peace, safety, and justice. After the discussion, attendees are invited to walk to the Durham County Detention Center to pray and hold vigil.

We hope you'll join us for one - or both. Find all of the details- https://durhamcares.org/events/
