It is again with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of the Durham County Fire Marshal/Emergency Management Director, Jeff Batten. Jeff served the citizens of Durham County for over 20 years as a firefighter at Bethesda VFD, Assistant Fire Marshal and Fire Marshal/Emergency Management Director. We wish Jeff well in this new stage of his life and he will be missed. Jeff's retirement was effective April 1, 2015.

It is with mixed feelings that the Durham County Fire Marshal's Office announces the retirement of Assistant Fire Marshal Craig Zglinski. Craig served with our office for over 20 years. We wish him all the best as he begins this new phase of his life. Safe travels friend!

A big "Thank you" to all the crews staffing the Durham County Fire Rescue, Durham County Volunteer Fire Departments, the City of Durham Fire Department, Durham County EMS, Durham City Police, Durham County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. Highway Patrol for doing the job during this snow event.

A strong cold front and upper level disturbance will cross central North Carolina tonight through Thursday morning. A period of light rain will mix with and change to light snow. A light coating of snow may occur in some areas, particularly on elevated surfaces in the Piedmont. With temperatures falling into the upper 20s to lower 30s by daybreak, patchy black ice will be possible, even where no snow coating occurs
