📮USPS wants to hear from YOU!

The USPS is accepting public comments on proposed ballot mail regulations.

The League of Women Voters is concerned these changes could make it harder for voters who rely on absentee and mail-in ballots to receive and return their ballots on time.

📣HUGE WIN FOR DEMOCRACY!! The case of League of Women Voters v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a federal judge has ordered the administration to end and disentangle a massive government database that consolidates millions of Americans’ sensitive and legally protected personal information, leaving them vulnerable to baseless investigations and being unlawfully purged from voter rolls.

“Today’s decision is a resounding victory for voters,” said Marcia Johnson, chief of activation and justice for the League of Women Voters. “Efforts to create a federal voter database to facilitate voter purges threaten the fundamental right at the heart of our democracy. The League of Women Voters will continue advocating for an electoral system where every eligible voter can participate with confidence and where elections remain fair, accurate, and accessible.”

The League of Women Voters has a long history of supporting Election of the President by Popular Vote. In 2020 on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the League the Board of Directors determined that a long-term goal would be abolition of the Electoral College by Constitutional amendment, an audacious effort akin to achieving the 19th amendment.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved people that they were free… more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The news marked a pivotal moment in American history and gave rise to a celebration that spread across the country as Black families carried the tradition to new communities.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our nation's history, honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans and reaffirm the ongoing work of building a more inclusive democracy for all.

The League of Women Voters of North Carolina urges members, supporters and the public to sign the LWVNC "One Person, One Vote Petition" to move the country one step closer to adopting the National Popular Vote as a means to elect the president.

Petition: I believe that a fundamental principle of democracy is that every vote for president should count equally. The presidency is the only elective office that represents all the people in the country, but the president-elect is not guaranteed to be the candidate who receives the most votes in....

🚨 ACTION ALERT: Contact Your Legislators 🚨

You cast your ballot. You followed the rules. Should your vote still be challenged after Election Day?

House Bill 958 (HB 958) would move North Carolina in the wrong direction by expanding post-election challenges and increasing the chances that eligible voters could face additional scrutiny after they've already cast their ballots.

Election laws should make it easier for eligible voters to participate and harder for eligible votes to be discarded. HB 958 does the opposite.

📞 Contact your state legislators and urge them to OPPOSE HB 958.
