Move over, Little Bo Peep! 🐑🐏

Our Animal Services deputies and officers officially added "Professional Sheep Herders" to their resumes today.

They responded to a call about six woolly trespassers—five white ewes and one distinguished black Ram—making themselves at home on Duck Pond Ct.

Realizing six sheep have a lot more legs than one officer, backup arrived to help and they were able to corral the flock on Ganyard Farm Way.

How do you contain runaway livestock in a suburban backyard? With absolute tactical precision and whatever you can find. The team successfully built a makeshift fortress using trash cans, pig boards, and—thanks to a helpful neighbor—some backyard co****le boards!

While the perimeter held, another officer managed to leash the Ram and es**rt him to the ewes, who instantly calmed down once their gentleman friend arrived.

The owner who'd lost thier sheep and didn't know where to find them arrived shortly after with a trailer, and our team helped load up the adventurous flock and safely es**rted them back home to their actual corral.

*No sheep or co****le boards were harmed in the making of this nursery rhyme!

Celebrating history, freedom, and community in Durham today!

This morning, local leaders and community members gathered at the Durham County Courthouse for the annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and the legendary Buffalo Soldiers officially raised the flag, which will proudly fly over our courthouse from today until June 19th as a symbol of freedom, resilience, and triumph.

Joel Brown from ABC11 kept the program moving beautifully as MC, and it was an honor to have so many of our dedicated local leaders in attendance, including U.S. Representative Valerie Foushee.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our history, celebrate our progress, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of equality and justice right here in our community. If you pass by the courthouse over the next few weeks, take a moment to look up and honor what that flag stands for.

K9 Oakley has been having a great week making the rounds at Durham recreation centers to meet some pretty cool kids! 🐾

While visiting, he’s been showing off his impressive skills. Oakley is trained in article and evidence searches, and he managed to sniff out a lot of fun during his demonstrations.

A big thanks to everyone who provided plenty of belly rubs and love during his visits to Edison Johnson and Campus Hills Recreation Centers!
