After hearing from community members that some street trees were blocking visibility for residents, our Urban Forestry Community Engagement team went out to join residents in pruning 16 trees to improve visibility. We developed a plan with the neighborhood to improve conditions and joined them in making their vision happen! We want to keep Durham's street trees healthy and in the ground while also serving the residents nearby.

Join us for a day of service and remembrance to those killed and injured on 9/11 and to the many brave individuals who responded in service. We have two service projects you can sign up for:

🌳 Start the day off with some street tree care and beautification along Blackwell Street from 9-11AM

🌿 Close the day by helping us remove invasive plants around the Museum of Life & Science campus from 2:30-4:30PM

We're gearing up for tree planting this fall and winter! Learn more about our upcoming plans! 🌳🗓️

Meixin and Roo are putting Community Based Environmental Management into action. They're walking through upcoming planting neighborhoods and speaking with folks about the trees that will be planted throughout the fall and winter. Keeping Durham beautiful is a collaborative process that can’t be done without your input. Unsure on the type of tree you would like? Worried about power lines or tree roots on pavement? These two are happy to hear your concerns and take this information directly back to the Urban Forestry crew at the City of Durham.

Join us on September 2nd to welcome the new chair of the Durham Bee City Committee (DBCC), Paula Alexander, and to say thanks and farewell to our outgoing chair, Sarah Hassan! The Durham Bee City Committee is a volunteer group that promotes and facilitates the education, conservation, and prosperity of our native and honeybee populations in and near Durham County.

Love cooking and giving back to your community? Durham Cooperative Extension is looking for residents to join the Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) Program.

Interested residents are invited to join an upcoming information session to learn how they can turn their skills and passion into meaningful support for families across Durham. EMFVs support and amplify Cooperative Extension’s nutrition and cooking programs and can lead their own cooking demos in the community.

Applications for the 2027 EMFV cohort open later this summer, and anyone interested must attend an information session.
