This tree planting season we gave away 917 trees to Durham residents for planting in their neighborhoods to expand our urban tree canopy. 🏡 This redbud, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, was planted just a couple of months ago. 🌳 We can't wait to see it bloom next spring!

Urban trees help to not only provide shade and beauty, but also regulate stormwater, reduce air and water pollution, and limit extreme heat.

If you've received a tree from Keep Durham Beautiful we'd love to see how it's doing! Share your photos of your Durham trees with us here or via email.

We are thrilled to announce that, for the second year in a row, Keep Durham Beautiful will be one of the fundraising recipients of this year's Beaver Queen Pageant, along with our amazing partner organization the Friends of Ellerbe Creek! 🦫 🦫 🦫

The 2026 Beaver Queen Pageant will take place on Saturday, June 6 from 4-7PM in the Duke Park Meadow across from the dog park. Join us for Durham’s own special mix of folly, pageantry, and humor. Contestants take on beaver personalities, introduce themselves in their wetlands-ready wear, showcase their unique talent, and participate in an interview in their finest evening wear. Funds are raised through a combination of sponsorships and voting for your favorite contestant (or bribing the judges!). We can't wait to see you there!

🦟💧☀️🐝🦋We are thankful for rain this week in North Carolina! Wet and warm weather will bring more mosquitoes… and fogging that can be harmful to the environment and our health. Let’s stay ahead of it this season with strong prevention tactics! Eliminate breeding sites by dumping standing water around your home.
