ConnectAbaana

ConnectAbaana ConnectAbaana partners with rural Ugandan communities to help local leaders provide quality education.

We believe that our mission is best accomplished by providing assistance to Ugandan leaders. Rather than bringing in teachers and administrators from a different culture, we identify and train talented Ugandans who become respected and trusted community leaders. We take the time to get to know our partner schools, carefully assessing their commitment to long term progress and requiring both financ

ial and educational accountability from them. Teachers benefit from continuing education that empowers them to address local issues; the community benefits from fewer abandoned orphans, healthier families, and resources for adults; donors benefit from the joy of seeing their contribution transform lives; and children grow up with consistent teaching in a safe, healthy environment where their dreams are nurtured. Rather than trying to meet arbitrary financial goals, our focus is on people and projects.

Why are we posting a picture of a bunch of logs? This is not just a pile of wood. This is a parent's payment for their child's school tuition. In kind payments like this help our schools and also give families dignity. Even peasant farmers have something valuable to contribute to their community.

Can't wait to see what all our schools do with their new computers! The teachers who are being trained right now are so excited.

"Back here in Uganda we are under going a two day course which will help us train our fellow teachers in our schools. Please extend our sincere gratitude to our friends in the States. With this training we shall be able to uplift the standards of our CAN schools in Uganda." - Kasim - Nyakasanga School

"We are in Jinja right now for a computer training workshop. It is so nice to us that we have achieved a lot. "
Greetings, Janepher - Nabembezi School

How did this guy transport a huge, heavy office desk across town on THAT motorcycle? We will never know. Meet January. He is the amazing security man who is helping Bill and Ruth Wismer, two of our board members who are settling in for 6 months of life in Uganda. Many more fun updates to come from the Wismers!

Janepher from the Nabembezi school writes to tell us that the highest class is going to take their Primary Leaving Exams (PLEs) soon. All students who go on to study past primary school must pass these tests. Janepher says that at Nabembezi they expect their students to be among the highest performers in all of Uganda!

Sweet message from Kassim at the Nyakasanga school:

We have successfully carriedout the communal work, it has been a very interesting exercise as our learners managed to collect polythene papers, plastic bottles & rubbish along our roads. As a sign of appreciation, the municipal council officials bought some simple drinks for our learners for challenging the neighbouring schools which have never joined communal work. From Nyakasanga infant school Kasese Uganda.

To all our supporters, a very important message from a Ugandan teacher:

The visit to Nyakasanga infant school in Kasese was so nice, educative and interesting. We learned how to handle children of various characters, how to teach concepts to children; how to improve on our language speaking and how to make our lessons real and meaningful.

I again extend my appreciation to those who came in to fund us. It was indeed joyful and marvelous.

Your being generous changed my life to a wide field of view, may the Lord award you abundantly.
