The N.C. Baptist State Convention never called. Jim Neal finished second in the North Carolina US Senate Democratic primary. His candidacy was undermined by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) over fears that a gay person could not win in the South. Though the DSCC denied the claim, its bias was an open secret. Pulitzer-Prize wining cartoonist Kevin Siers at the The Charlotte Observer captured the clash in this hilarious spoof.
