Mí Gente! Se viene el segundo año de TAPS (Talleres de Artes Populares). TAPS es el único taller de arte para jovenes
latinos y sus familias subvencionado por el Consejo de Artes de Carolina del Norte que se desarrolla todo el año, de Sept. a Junio. Están invitados a participar a todo tipo de actividades artísticas con énfasis en crear murales comunitarios. Los talleres son gratuitos enseñados por artistas locales.

Reunión de información: Primero de Septiembre, de 3pm-6pm, en el local de SEEDS - 706 Gilbert Stree, Durham, NC.

The Center for the Nuevo South invites to celebrate the work of the Latine youth of the first ever TAPS program in Durham. TAPS (Traditional Arts and Practices for Students) is a program of the NC Arts Council dedicated to the community-centered transmission of traditional arts. Since September 20 youth and their families have been coming every Sunday to SEEDS to share and create public art that speaks to their needs to express their multicultural identities.

Come by SEEDS and share some of the beauty and the joy of these young Duramitas.

We are super excited to announce that we were awarded a $5,000 grant by the Bull City Strong Project of Durham County to address the traces and scars of the COVID Pandemic as experienced by the Latino communities.

Oscar Garcia Cervantes, Rodrigo Dorfman, and Dorian Gomez, “Behind the Mask of COVID” – The Center for the Nuevo South’s public awareness program Behind the Mask of Covid (Tras la Máscara de COVID) brings a Latino lens and holistic approach to expressing and communicating the impact of COVID-19 on Latino communities. The program uses Zumba and well-being practices, talking circle workshops, community-created public art and public awareness materials. The idea behind “Behind the Mask of COVID” is to explore not only the psychological impact of putting on masks but also the different “masks” the community had to wear when we took off our physical masks and were faced (or did not face) what was necessary to do in order to survive the pandemic. Their creative team of community activists consists of Oscar Garcia Cervantes (Zumba Activist and Spanish interpreter for the Durham County Department of Public Health, Dorian Gomez (multimedia storyteller) and Rodrigo Dorfman (visual storyteller).

El Center for the Nuevo Sourh está organizando - con unos jóvenes - una sesión gratis de retratos profesionales para la comunidad y quería saber si tal vez te interesaría?

Éste lienzo te permite reservar tu sesión. Hay un límite de sesiones. Pedimos que traigas un objeto valioso cultural que sea parte del retrato. Dime si tienes preguntas. Todos los participantes reciben fotos gratis imprimidos de tamaño grande.
