Established in 1951, Det 585 is located on the campus of Duke University and proudly serves both Duke and North Carolina Central Universities. Eagerly carrying out the mission of Air Force ROTC by producing quality leaders for the Air Force, Det 585 is a military educational program designed to give men and women the opportunity to become Air Force officers while earning a college degree.

It’s over. 🥲

Through six MAXes, Det 585 sent a record number of cadets to Field Training this year. With just two days to rest at home between Field Training and the start of school, Cadets Hubert and Ramamorthy were certainly roughing it in good old Alabama.

Congrats to our final two Field Training graduates of the summer! And with that, our 2026 Field Training coverage comes to a close. We hope you’ve enjoyed our small sampling of Alabama, and Alabama-themed classics, along the way. 🎶

First LLAB of the semester is in the books! ✈️

Today, we welcomed our cadets back and celebrated those returning from Field Training by presenting them with their official nameplates! We also introduced our newest cadets to ROTC life through briefings led by our cadets and Cadre.

From recognizing milestones to welcoming the newest members of our Detachment, we’re excited to see what this semester has in store. Check out some scenes from a great first LLAB! 💪

Summer may be coming to a close, but the cadets are still at Maxwell enduring the grueling Alabama heat🔥🔥🔥

A few weeks ago, cadets Sureshbabu, Lovejoy, Stephens, and Sun graduated from Field Training at Maxwell AFB, Alabama and have joined the POC!
