This year, the Durham County Budget Office is holding a Budget Book Cover Contest for the FY 2025-26 Annual Budget Book!

This contest is open for Durham County Children Pre-K through Senior year and the prompt or theme for the contest is "draw your favorite part of living in Durham County."

Durham County Budget celebrates Native American Heritage Day! As we celebrate, we acknowledge that Durham county stands on the ancestral lands of the Catawba, Cheraw, Eno, Lumbee, Occaneechi, Shakori, and Tuscarora peoples.

Durham County Government provided funds to several partners including the Durham History Museum that celebrates the history of Native American contributions in our community.

Durham County Government Staff are given four hours each month to volunteer within DCo. This month DCo Budget staff volunteered at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC-Durham Branch and sorted 8,500 pounds of food!

"Long before the Bull City was named for Dr. Bartlett Durham in the 1800’s, the community was making history. Before Europeans arrived, two Native American tribes – the Eno and the Occaneechi, related to the Sioux – lived and farmed here. Durham is thought to be the site of an ancient Native American village named Adshusheer. The Great Indian Trading Path is traced through Durham, and Native Americans helped to mold Durham by establishing settlement sites, transportation routes, and environmentally-friendly patterns of natural resource use."
