US-70 narrows to one lane near Roosevelt Bridge over Lake Texoma Tuesday.

US-70 will be narrowed to one lane 1 mile east of the Roosevelt Bridge from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday for surface repairs. Drivers should expect delays or locate an alternate route.

The Bryan County Commissioners have extended the burn ban for Bryan County until September 14th. I have attached the document from the commissioners.

Hot and sunny again this week. The forecast shows temperatures reaching 103 today but the rest of the week will be slightly cooler. Wednesday through Saturday is forecasted to stay at 98 to 99 for highs. No rain is expected at this time.

Durant Emergency Management is hosting a 2-day Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) class at the Durant Regional Emergency Operations Center. We are privileged to be able to host training for students from all over the state to come to Durant and learn ways to go back and better assist their jurisdictions.

Today is an EXTREME HEAT day in our area. If you have to work outside, take precautions. Bryan County is also still under a burn ban until August 31st where the commissioners will reevaluate it.

Expect a high of 107 today and 106 tomorrow. There is a 20% chance of showers or thunderstorms tomorrow. Temperatures will cool slightly for the rest of the week with expected highs of 99 to 102. See the graphics from the National Weather Service below.

💧 WATER SYSTEM UPDATE

The City of Durant has an important update regarding current water system conditions and the continued steps being taken to help stabilize water pressure throughout our community.

A booster pump has been ordered, and we are asking residents to help by limiting discretionary watering, including sprinkler and lawn irrigation, until after 8 p.m.

This is not a water supply issue. The current concern is the volume of demand on the system, especially during periods of extreme heat and high water usage.
