Indigenous Peoples' Day Events at FLC:
Schedule of Events
8am – 10:30am Poster Making at the NAC Conference Room (Room 035), Student Union
The Native American Center will provide material for students, staff, and faculty to make posters for the Solidarity March.
10:30am -11am Solidarity Walk (meet in front of the Center of Southwest Studies)
Students, staff, faculty and allies are encouraged to wear red in solidarity for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
11am – 12:30pm lunch at the Native American Center (Room 020), Student Union
Join the NAC for lunch after the Solidarity Walk and engage in open dialogue with students, staff, faculty and allies
12:30pm Movie: Dance me Outside, Native American Center (Room 020), Student Union
This Canadian drama based on a book by W.P. Kinsella, examines the tension between Native Canadians and Anglos in Canada from an Indigenous perspective. Silas Crow, who lives on a Northern Ontario reserve, wants to take a mechanic's course in Toronto with his friend Frank Fencepost. But before he can enroll, the teen must write a short narrative describing his home. The film is a series of vignette's from Crow's narrative.
1:30pm Cedar Bracelet and Earring Making Workshop, Native American Center, Student Union
Join in dialogue of Indigenous culture as the NAC hosts a Cedar Bracelet and Earring Marking Workshop. Learn about the significance of the materials used in these cultural crafts.
