Now owned and operated by American Heritage Railways, the D&SNGRR provides distinctive year-round rail experiences and exceptional special events via its fleet of vintage steam and diesel locomotives and coaches which have been updated with modern conveniences to accommodate today’s discerning travelers. 🌙 The Animas Canyon like you’ve NEVER seen it before.

We are incredibly excited to announce “The Animas Canyon After Dark”—a rare, exclusive night-photography excursion coming this October 19th–21st, 2026.

We’re teaming up with master railroad photographer Pete Lerro ( ) to bring you into the deep, wild heart of the canyon under a blanket of stars. We’ll be staging 10 completely different, professionally illuminated night-photo setups over two nights using specialized LED lighting. Think dramatic steam, historic rolling stock, and portfolio-worthy action shots in places with zero motorized access.

To keep the shooting environment perfectly uncrowded, capacity is capped at 35 guests per night.

Strap on your hiking boots, grab your tripod, and get ready to capture history in the dark.
