During last night's City Council meeting, Deputy Chief Onesimo Lopez was officially sworn in as the newest member of Team DPD.
DC Lopez brings more than 30 years of progressive municipal law enforcement experience, including executive leadership service as both Assistant Chief and Chief of Police for the City of Bellaire, Texas. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to professional policing, organizational accountability, community engagement, and ethical leadership.
Most recently, DC Lopez served as Chief of Police for the Bellaire Police Department, where he oversaw all department operations, investigations, training, professional standards, budgeting, and personnel functions for a full-service municipal police department. Prior to his appointment as Chief, he served as Assistant Chief of Police for the Bellaire Police Department. Before joining Bellaire, DC Lopez served the Pearland Police Department for 24 years, progressing through the ranks from Officer to Captain of Administrative Services Division Commander and holding numerous leadership assignments throughout his career.
DC Lopez is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Tarleton State University. He has also completed graduate-level coursework toward a Master of Public Administration degree. His experience includes policy development, organizational leadership, community outreach, media relations, crisis management, and mentoring future law enforcement leaders.
