National Police Week 2026 is May 10–16, with Peace Officers Memorial Day observed on May 15. During this week, the Dunlap Police Department recognizes the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the country while also remembering those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

This week is National Police Week 2026. This week we honor those who protect and keep our communities safe. If you see a law enforcement officer in your community this week remember to tell them how much you appreciate them.

Dunlap, TN – On Sunday, May 3, 2026, officers with the Dunlap Police Department observed a vehicle driving erratically on Walnut Street. A traffic stop was initiated on Old York Highway. The driver refused commands and fled on foot, but was quickly located and taken into custody. He was identified as Dakota Johnston, who was found to have active warrants for Domestic Assault and Aggravated Assault Involving a Handgun.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a G***k 19 handgun, ma*****na, drug paraphernalia, and additional narcotics-related items. The total weight of the recovered substances was approximately 56.2 grams.

Johnston is charged with:
• Possession of a handgun during the commission of a felony
• Felonious possession of Schedule VI
• Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
• Evading arrest
• Resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search
