Just a couple of notes: We are a members only American Legion Post. In addition to a few other definitions we have two critical items that are important to the operation of our canteen.
1: Our 11C liquor license: A Florida 11C liquor license is a "Lodges and Other Club License".
It authorizes non-profit organizations, fraternal associations, and specific private clubs to sell beer, wine, and liquor by the drink, strictly for consumption on the premises to members and their guests.
2: Our liquor liability insurance.
Liquor liability insurance is a hot topic across the American Legion. The underwriters are requiring additional information on operations and procedures. Without this insurance we will be required to stop selling alcohol until we replace the policy. We pay large premiums to maintain service and cost continue to rise.
Both of these documents prohibit sales to the public or transfer of alcohol for a donations. We sell liquor to our members and guests who are properly signed in.
We do allow the public in for Sunday Breakfast and Bingo. We do not sell them alcohol. Nor do we accept a donation for the transfer.
Breakfast on Sunday runs from 9-11am. We open the lounge for alcohol sales at 11am. The expectation is you are at the post on Sunday morning to eat breakfast. The family units will continue to offer members and guests adult breakfast beverages with breakfast. They will have a set price. You will be required to show your membership card and sign in your guests. You may not purchase drinks for non-members or the public.
Whatever happened in the past or your last post is irrelevant. We are bound by the requirements of the liquor license and our insurance. We will meet these requirements.
