🚫🔥 Open Burn Ban Issued Across Nebraska 🔥🚫
Effective immediately, Gov. Jim Pillen has issued an Executive Order banning the issuance of open burn permits for the next 14 days.
According to Nebraska State Fire Marshal Doug Hohbein, the order means:
• No fire chief or designated official may issue an open burn permit for any purpose.
• Any burn permit that has not already been completed is now null and void.
• Open burning is not permitted for 14 consecutive days beginning immediately.
The order will be reviewed before the 14-day period ends to determine whether the ban needs to be extended. The official Executive Order document will be released later today, March 13, 2026, once all required parties have signed it.
The Columbus Fire Department reminds residents that these restrictions are in place to reduce fire risk and protect our community. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping Columbus safe.
