Duncan Valley Rural Fire District

Duncan Valley Rural Fire District The Duncan Valley Rural Fire District has been providing fire and emergency services to Southern Greenlee County since 1974.

Our response area covers approximately 50 square miles around Duncan, AZ. Their response area covers approximately 8 square miles in and around Duncan, Arizona

With the fire chief and 20 volunteers, DVRFD responds to an average of 50 emergency calls per year ranging from structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, and wildfire assignments. The district also provides non-emergency services such as p

ublic fire education and community event standbys. Duncan Fire's volunteers operate out of 2 stations with 3 pumper engines, 2 water tenders ans 2 brush engines. They are trained to combat many types of fires, as well as vehicle extrication, steep-angle rope rescue, swift water rescue, hazardous materials operations, and first aid; some to the EMT and Paramedic levels. Duncan Fire partners with Arizona State Forestry, providing staffing and equipment to both initial and extended attack operations for Arizona wildfires. They also provide support to other fire departments around Southeast Arizona and Southwest New Mexico. A forgotten fact about our firefighters is that this isn't their real job. Each of them already have a career, and volunteer their free time to the community. They risk life and limb to keep others safe.

At approx 10:02 today, Engine 33 responded to the Sand Wash/Sheldon area for a reported kitchen fire. The occupant had used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Engine 33’s crew arrived on scene and used a thermal imaging device to check for fire extension within the walls and structure and helped to clear the smoke from the occupancy.

The fire was isolated to the kitchen and the appliances. There was no structural involvement.

This is a good reminder to everyone to check and maintain your smoke detectors, and to make sure you have a fire extinguisher in your home.

The fire district can provide information on good quality fire extinguishers, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Feel free to reach out at (928) 362-2485.

🌵Southeast Arizona will be warm and dry.

We can expect to see a few dry weather disturbances pass through the region from time to time resulting in breezy westerly winds the second half of the week into this weekend. The first feature to track through the area will occur Wednesday.

These breezy winds, combined with the low relative humidity and high fire danger rating will result in elevated to near critical fire weather conditions.
