Yesterday evening just after 6:30PM Rescue Co. 3 and Independent Hose Co. were dispatched to the intersection of Virginia and Howard for a 2 car motor vehicle crash. The crash caused a utility pole to snap at the base and pull power lines down across the roadway.

Luckily there were only minor injuries reported. Members of DVAC tended to the injured parties and transported them to a local hospital. Companies remained on scene until the scene could be made safe by Public Service.

The members of Independent Hose would like to congratulate former Chiefs James Molinaro and son Daniel Molinaro on completing 50 years and 27 years to Hose Co. 3 and to the community.

Chief Jim Molinaro joined the department in 1976 serving various roles throughout the department and serving Chief of department in 1984, 1987, 2008 and 2009.

Chief Dan Molinaro joined the department in 1999 also following his father’s footsteps through the ranks and became Chief of department in 2016 and 2017.

Congratulations gentleman for all your years serving the Dumont Fire Department and the community we live in.

Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made for this department.

This evening just after 11:45 Engine 5 and Chief 211 were requested to Tulip Street in Bergenfield for a working fire. Dumont Engine 5 and Bergenfield Companies arrived on scene and quickly started an aggressive fire attack. Companies were met with heavy fire conditions at the rear of the home extending to a second home. Luckily there were no reported injuries. Units operated on scene for just under 2 hours.

Yesterday evening at 9:20pm Engine 5 was requested auto aid to the 300 block of E. Johnson Ave. in Bergenfield for a reported residential fire. Engine 5 was advised when they arrived on scene to stretch a line and begin fire attack. Once on seen the crew from 5 started an aggressive interior attack. The initial hydrant was found to be inoperable a second engine found a water source on the next block over and stretched over 500 feet through the rear yard to supply engine 5. A second line was stretched and placed into service. The fire was brought under control and luckily there were no injuries reported. The Dumont company operated on scene for two hours before being released back to the borough. Solid work by all the companies that operated on East Johnson last night.

This morning just after 5:00am the Bergenfield Fire Department along with the automatic mutual aid of Engine Co. 5 and Chief 211 were dispatched to the 100 block of Roosevelt Ave for a working fire.

Engine 5 arrived second due engine co. stretched a line to the first floor to start an aggressive fire attack with fire already extending into the 2nd floor. Companies were met with 2 first floor collapses into the basement while operating. After an evacuation of the fire building Engine 5 was tasked with making a push into the second floor where there already was a heavy fire load.

Due to the amount of fire additional bells were struck for more resources. The company operated on scene for 4.5 hours before being released back to the borough. Luckily there were no reported injuries.

“Engine 5’s on your frequency responding”

Over the night in the sub 0 temperatures Engine 5 and the Chiefs responded to 2 multiple alarm fires in Oradell on Poplar Street. In between the mutual aid requests Dumont companies responded in the area of Madison Ave and Johnson Ave for a reported fire called in by patrol units. Once on scene companies found a fire in the bathroom from a space heater. In the last 24 hours Dumont companies have had 10 calls for service. Everything from water conditions, odor of gas to working fires.

Over the weekend Engine 4, the Rescue, Chief 211 and 212 responded to the 700 Block of Berkeley Street for a reported residential fire in New Milford. While on scene the companies were advised to split their crew of 14 to provide fire suppression and RIT standby. Luckily there were no reported injuries and Dumont companies were released to back to the borough in just over 2 hours.

01/26/2026 - Yesterday at 21:42 hrs. the Dumont Fire Department was requested to respond mutual aid into Bergenfield for a reported structure fire. Engine 5 and Chief 211 responded and arrived shortly after, and were met with heavy fire conditions on the second floor. Members of Engine 5 assisted with primary searches, fire suppression, and overhaul and worked on scene for approximately (02) hours before being released.
