Toussaint is a Mentor with us! We love celebrating our great folks!

As we continue to get ready for opening, we'd love to introduce you to the team behind LNPK Grocery. Meet Toussaint!

Toussaint will be working as a community grocery clerk at LNPK Grocery. His vision for the store is for it to be a space where “kids can come into the grocery store and see their favorite grocer, and grow up knowing about whole food, and knowing about having a balanced shopping cart.”

His favorite part about LNPK Grocery is its mission being a direct response to a community survey.

When asked what they most wanted in their neighborhood, Lincoln Park residents largely said they wanted access to whole fresh food in a grocery store. “It's not about us. It's about the community, and the community specifically said, yes, we want this, we need this, let's go. So that's huge,” explained Toussaint.

Please join us in celebrating Toussaint for his incredible work on the grocery store. When you pop by after we open, make sure to give him a big hello!

We're teaming up with First Witness Child Advocacy Center to host a Safe & Strong Communities Training event on Tuesday, September 29th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Damiano Center Conference Room. This event is FREE and provides an opportunity for members of our mentoring community to gain valuable skills and knowledge on being prepared to better recognize and confront child abuse, while also touching on mandated reporting. I Stand With Kids is our annual month-long campaign that educates and encourages our society to recognize that child abuse is both everyone’s problem and everyone’s responsibility. Our vision for child abuse prevention is to build a community commitment for safe relationships and environments for all children. Match Story Monday!

This week, we are sharing an incredible story from a former Mentor and Youth match that were matched for nearly 4 years. Former Mentor Akela surprised youth Anaya with a care package and an exciting announcement! Akela is now engaged and has asked Anaya to be a junior bridesmaid in her wedding! This is so precious and incredible! It shows the bond that mentors and youth can have beyond our mentoring program. Pass the tissues please! Congratulations to Akela and Anaya on this exciting news and we love seeing updates from our former matches still involved in each others lives.
