Congratulations to our Mentor North Board Member, Rachael Tuve, for completing her Master's of Tribal Administration & Governance at UMD!

What an incredible achievement and we are so proud of you! We asked Rachael to share about her academic journey and connection to our program.

Q: What's next for you?
A: Continuing to work as the Director of Human Resources for the Center for Alcohol & Drug Treatment in Duluth, and pursing a Doctorate of Healthcare Administration from Oklahoma State University

Q: Can you tell us more about your experience pursuing your Master's?
A: My key takeaway from my master’s program was how to lead with integrity and values in a good way. Much of this master’s program was focused on community based, culturally grounded leadership and the best ways to serve the people we love and care about so much.

Q: Why are you passionate about being involved at Mentor North?
A: I choose to show up for the Mentor North community out of love and commitment. I genuinely love the community we’ve built in the Twin Ports area and the mission, vision, and values of Mentor North are very near and dear to my heart. I’ve found a place that feels like home and where my passions and purpose can serve others.

Small Cheer and Great Welcome Makes a Merry Feast!

Mentor North still has tickets left for the special preview of Duluth Playhouse's Comedy of Errors on Thursday, May 27th! Mentors and mentees are welcome to join us for this evening of laughs. The Comedy of Errors is a hilarious romp of swapped identities, misguided love, mistaken imprisonment and chaotic mishaps. Whether you’re a die-hard Shakespeare fan or discovering this classic for the first time, this slapstick comedy delivers nonstop laughs, heartfelt moments, and a reminder that even the wildest of circumstances can’t break the bonds of family.

‍Contact Joe Birdseye at [email protected] if you and your mentor/matched youth would like to join in the fun!

We recently released our 2025 Impact Report! 💙
Here, you can view how our mentor community grew, built connections and fostering resiliency last year. Yesterday, Maurices celebrated their annual Difference Making Day with us at Mentor North.
Every year maurices encourages their employees to volunteer with local organizations in the community. Maurices staff joined us to help do some spring cleaning around our office space as well as pack "Summer Safety Kits" for our mentors. These kits contain items like first aid kits, sunscreen, bug spray, and more! These will be given out to our mentors to have on hand when out enjoying time with their matched youth. Thank you SO MUCH Maurices for sharing your time, resources and people power!

Our Mentors and Youth had a blast at Hartley Nature Center this past Sunday! 🌳💚
We went on a staff-guided nature hike, tried hand fishing for crayfish, and even did some watercolor painting! Thanks for showing us the signs of spring, Hartley Nature Center !

ALT TEXT: Image: The images are displayed in a collage surrounded by graphics of nature items like pinecones, bees, ferns and a robin. Pictured in the center are a Mentor and Youth posing for their photo while smile and giving a thumbs up! Also pictured are three photos of mentors and youth bent down attempting to catch crayfish in a creek.

We've been loving these photos from our March into Mentoring Panel we hosted to close out March into Mentoring this year.
We've had mentors appear on panels before, but this was the FIRST TIME we had youth from our program participate with their mentors!
It was really special to not only hear about the bonds formed over mentoring, but to see mentoring happen in real time. Truly special!
A big thank you to Mentor Dan and youth Josiah (match 6 years), Mentor Nicole and alumni youth Mariah (matched 9 years), and Mentor Richard for participating!
Thank you to our Activity Pass Partner and gracious hosts Wussow's Concert Cafe for hosting us and for the Trash Cats for playing some sweet tunes following this!

ALT TEXT: Image: The first photo is a wideshot of the Mentor and Youth Panel on a stage inside Wussow's Concert Cafe speaking in front of an audience of attendees. The second slide features two photos of a current matched mentor and youth, Dan and Josiah. The second slide features photos of Mentor Nicole and Youth Mariah that were matched for several years.
